That is exactly how I see the IOL formula too DMacOriginally posted by dmac_bolt View Post
I have a predisposition to always want best but I’m realistic in understanding total available resources and total areas with holes or can be improved. I see a mid-ground for Joe. Start with fact he needs 3 new IOL starters and OT backups.
One top tier FA - Lind, McGov, Edwards?
One mid-tier value FA - Seumalu, Zietler, Fortner, Risner, ? (I’m not big on Teller given his poor pass pro grade last year)
one Rd1 or 2 draft pick - expected to start immediately so pick wisely
A blend of longer term younger to build with anda couple older but still good vets on short deals to bridge over to future year drafts. Then Joe goes shopping for the rest like Joe will do being Joe.

I never suggested trading QJ for a 4th rounder... you must have me confused w/someone else.Originally posted by powderblueboy View Post
The only way i am drafting a wide receiver in the 2nd is if you think he is going to be a star: high upend contermands need.
Otherwise ... why? This is a push year, and QJ will only be much more productive under the improved Oline and MM, and his value will go up.
Trade him for a 4rth? Absurd ... he'll quite possibly net you a 3rd next year, or you might even decide to sign him to year 5.
Some here are stumbling over themselves trying to send QJ out ASAP.
My suggestion for drafting a WR in the 1st/2nd is based on PBA strategy. I know you are committed to DT... you and I just see differently.
I've suggested WR... knowing that Keenan will most likely not be re-signed... knowing that DD offers nothing in the pass game... knowing that QJ probably hits the free market next off-season. I also know that the Chargers are lacking in redzone targets. Whereas, Boston (1st round) and Sarratt (2nd round) fulfill that need... rookie year... even if they're only getting 40% of the snaps (which is exactly what a rookie DT would get in a rotation).
In year 2... QJ moves on and you still have weapons... Ladd, Boston/Sarratt, Harris, KLS (who will now be in year 3). You don't have to focus on WR during the draft.Protect the QB
Run the ball
Play great defense

Yes... deep speed for McD's play-action. So far, QJ hasn't proven to be a deep threat. He can get deep... he just doesn't contest 50/50 balls or fight for deep sideline catches. KC has been good at contested catches. Even though he's not big... he does elevate well and make contested catches. He becomes our returner immediately... then gets more PT in 2027 once QJ is gone.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

How do you know Keenan will not be signed. It is known he will most likely be signed again.Originally posted by Boltnut View Post

It is known that Keenan very much wants to sign and play another year in LA. It is not known what the team and the new OC are thinking.Originally posted by FoutsFan View Post

Either way this is not a rush, sign quickly priority in free egency

Very much agree with you. If Hortiz has to spend a bit more to make sure the IOL is up to where it needs to be - totally get it. And I want him to make sure the OL is top notchOriginally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
An elite defense would be a nice luxury. But first we need a functioning offense to beat the big boys and that doesn't happen without major o line upgrades from last year.
Maximize the best player on the teams talent, Herbert, who still has not reached his ceiling...and you will win big games with a solid but not elite defense

Honestly, I am still trying to figure where Keenan Allen would fit - IF, big IF, the team signs or drafts another TE. He won't be your special team player and if the offense has the running game (Hampton, Vidal), the WRs (Ladd, QJ, Harris) and two TEs - that leaves Allen as what WR4. Maybe that is viable at the right price in this type of scenario. That said, still think a Rasheed type WR that can have the return game and bigger play ability makes more sense.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

From what my cousin in Maryland tells me (for what it is worth as he has no special insight), he has had a few nagging injuries he played through and there is concern about one of his knees. He is also undersized so the worry is he will start breaking down.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post
Why is he tagged as an injury history player?:

Luke Fortner.... impressive lateral movement and speed, solid technique, effective in zone blocking schemes and out in space, lacks elite anchor, susceptible to bull rushes, lacks power enough to move XL DTs in run game, struggled w/pressures and run blocking in the '023 season w/Jax, durable, high floor, avg ceiling, works best in space, game lacks glaring holes, good length in pass pro, consistent, safer than not gambit, can get out in front on screen plays, NFL compare on one account was Connor McGovern, processes blitzes/games, reads defenses well, team captain, high character locker room presence, good intangibles, dedicated to team, nobody outworks himLAC SB1
