Unfortunately, his seem to happen at horrible times (Green Bay, Ravens) and after he does drop one, he seemingly goes into a lost confidence funk. Maybe he needs a sports shrink to help deal with it better. Hard to question the physical tools and work ethic.

The Chargers offensive and passing game success doesn't depend on QJ elevating himself to an elite WR though. That would be nice, but it's not necessary. The Chargers have other candidates to rise up and become the stud #2 to McConkey, Harris and Gadsden specifically. QJ had 55 catches for 711 yds and 8 TDs last season. That is good production for 3rd or 4th receiver, which is all QJ may ever be. He's still on his rookie contract and a bargain for that level of production. The Chargers have to make a decision on his 5th year option after this season. If his level of play doesn't take a big leap forward this season, they can opt not to pick up his 5th year and let him play out his rookie contract in 2027 and move on. However, if QJ has a breakout season in 2025, like the Texans' Nico Collins did in his 3rd season, it becomes a different story obviously. I think the Chargers are in good shape in receivers going forward. They added 2 rookie WRs and a stud TE in this draft, in addition to Ladd & QJ.Originally posted by Chargers8491 View Post
I guess no one can say QJ isn't working to get better because he is putting in the time. Maybe it's just me but he looks more filled out this year as well. Let's hope he puts it together this year. His work ethic suggest he is going to have a big dare I say monster year.
BTW, those are some good and fair takes.

QJ had a personal-best, record-setting game in week 18 last season. One would think he would be highly confident going into week 19, but he totally disappeared. Zero catches. Tucker Fisk had a 15 yd catch in that game.Originally posted by richpjr View Post

From what I can tell as a distant viewing fan, he seems to go into funks after a bad play in a game and it seemingly haunts him for a long time in that game.Originally posted by Velo View Post

Pleased? IDK, most everyone including myself we accepted the fact that the team had limited resources to go out and stock the roster, I think Tart moved the needle more on these forums than Ford did, when they claimed Tart off of waivers people were relieved that Ford, Otito, Fox, Matlock, and Eboigbe were going to get some much needed help...Tart was the one I remember folks around here getting more excited about. But Ford? not so much...I mean people were hopeful we'd get a serviceable player but I don't think anyone anticipated or said that they expected the year that Ford ended up having...This is part of the genius of what the Ravens have done for years and years...Hortiz knows how to tap into those veterans that might be highly motivated to perform even for low level compensation. I wonder if Hand and Jones end up being more like Tart and Ford and less like Hurst and Chark...I guess you can't hit on all of them...Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post
I thought most of us were pleased with the signing. Agree we may not have expected as much as we got, but many here expected he’d help solve a glaring hole in the roster so it at least wasn’t a focal point of weakness.
idunno, we’d have to replay the tape and thats not like me to do that lol…"The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. IIRC, he was sick the week leading up to the Houston game. Not making excuses for him.Originally posted by Velo View Post

The confidence thing is real, but it all comes down from a life long of bad fundamentals, it's hard to unlearn bad habits and QJ has been prone to taking his eye off the ball and also to let the ball hit him in the body and trapping it, he doesn't have good contested ball instincts either, I wonder if he ever played basketball in his life, my guess is no, he doesn't do a good job of positioning his body between him and the defender, the kid doesn't know how to block out like a basketball player, it's one of the things that made Antonio Gates so damned good. part of it is triangulating where the ball is going to be and then shielding the defender away from it with his body and then extending his arms to make the catch. Some of these things are going to improve with QJ, but at the end of the day he's going to be limited by the atrocious position coaching he got in HS and College when he was laying down the foundation...The confidence issues would increase by themselves he understood how manipulate defenders more and not let them get into receiving lane, part of that is also footwork and developing his routes better too, QJ was incredibly raw for WR coming into the NFL nowadays, TCU sucks at developing WRs and we have three of those guys on our roster...Originally posted by richpjr View Post

So what's up with Andre James? Is he hurt? Chopped liver? . . . . . . . . . not a peepOriginally posted by sonorajim View PostRegards LG - C, good article. I took away the need to really understand each other's position no matter who starts where. That will be accomplished to a greater degree over last year and should yield improved LG- C cooperation and interaction.
I also noted that Zion has a lot of quality vet C support. Most notably Hardwick but also coach Devlin and retired C Linsley.
We know damn well that KC will attack our IOL game 1. We also know damn well that coaches Harbaugh and Roman are aware also.
So, will we be ready? LOL! I think so. The next few weeks will be huge. I also know that Harbaugh intends to win vs KC in Brazil.

Zion and Boze are #1 and 2 at each position LG & C. Kinda complicates the issue.I see James in photos and guess he's C on 2nd string OL. You can spot him. White guy with heavily tattooed arms & legs hiking the ball.Originally posted by Lefty2SLO View Post

Yep, thiis forum never mentions those guys and I think they are going to make the DL a lot better along with Tart and Caldwell and hopefully Eboigbe. I don't know what to expect from Otito.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

Fox was bad against the run and imo losing him was ok
He added some pass rush but his run defense was weak .

I think anyone holding onto his draft position in how they judge him, has to let that go by now, and just see him for his current value to the team.Chargers logo:
