Charlie Kolar is a plus blocker, and I think and underrated receiving TE. He was known as a lot more of a pass catcher in college at ISU. Then he developed the blocking because it was the only way he got on the field behind Likely and Andrews.Originally posted by Ghost of Quacksaw View Post
Honestly, I'd be surprised, moving forward, if the Bolts sign ANY tight ends that aren't 'plus' blockers. Hortiz and Harbaugh aspire to build an offense that dominates with the run first, and blocking TEs are a crucial element of that plan. A majority of the TEs that have hit the market this offseason are *not* plus blockers, but one or two might fit the Chargers' philosophical mold.
There has really only ever been a couple of offenses in NFL history that can use multiple TE and have them be productive. We did in the Winslow/Eric Sievers and then added to it with Pete Holohan. The only other time has been NE with Gonzalez and Gronk. There have been a lot of teams that try to exploit 2 good receivers, but most fail badly.
If we could draft Sadiq, we would really have to work on his run blocking, but it might not be too big an issue since he might surpass OG as the receiving TE, and OG would have to become the inline guy. Sadiq being the motion Hback role.
At 22 we aren't going to be within a country mile of being able to draft Sadiq.

Or if Hortiz thinks Sadiq is BPA and will be a unique weapon for years i don't think he doesnt think about future and hs BPA for a 31 year old TE2Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post
Depends who else is there. Maybe trading down. But I doubt he is there..,but you never know.
But I agree it it likely moot, Sadiq won't be there

I feel like this is a The Sky is Falling type of post. 11-6 with the worse OL. Let's see what we do in FAcy before you start the fire Hortiz/Harbaugh threads.

Sadiq is a freak!... he can play RB, WR, orTE!..... he is a very good blocker and built very strong .... if he were on the Chargers height be your fastest player.... he would be a dominating star in MM's new Chargers offense!Originally posted by Steve View Post

Chargers need to use FA to fix the OL adding at least a starting Center and OG ....2 OG's if possible ....sao that Chargers can draft BPA at 22..... and grab Sadiq if he is there....if Sadiq is gone then grab the best pass rusher available.....

Agreed. I loved how they got him the ball in the backfield. He had a huge year when with McD. Look at these play designs. Some of these are just extended hand offs with designed blockers in front of him. So much pre snap confusion. The movement is insane.Originally posted by Steve View Post
He is not a superstar, but as a 2nd TE who could be used in 2 TE sets, more of an Hback kind of role, I think he is perfect. Maybe not as fast as he once was, but still fast enough to be an underneath receiver and get some first downs.
When I see him play and get a lot of touches, he just breaks a ton of tackles and gets a team fired up.
I still think Harris is the guy who is going to be kind of exciting in a hybrid WR/FB type of role. Hard to matchup with him as the 3rd WR who can block.
Would love to see Harris used like that. That was my guy. He shows some special gifts. I think he breaks out.

Sadiq is a multi role TE. He is inline. He can block like a MOFO. Then you rotate Kenyon/Smith and OG2 in 12 groupings. Or 13. Despite that not being a major part of McDs offense in the past. He has been sort of 22 heavy.Originally posted by Maniaque 6 View PostIf you hire J. Smith, what do you do at 22 if Sadiq is there ?
You're on the phone ?
Would like to get Alec Ingold from them.

2) Pregnon, Emmanuel- OG/Oregon
3) Moore, Derrick- EDGE/Michigan
4) Demmings, Charlie- CB/S. F. Austin

I could see them go DT, edge, edge in the 1st 3 rnds in that order. Of course it depends on what they do in free agency.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post

What rounds out our weaponry ?
Mike Evans consistently makes contested catches downfield ala Mike Williams, if that rumor is true.
McD's comment about playing with hair on fire vs pure speed has me thinking he was talking about Vidal or thinking about a type of draftable RB.
I like Nowakowski late in the draft.
There is blocking and versatility.
Or Ingold.
Vital McD piece.Woods Jacas Zuhn Klein Heidenreich 4.18.26
