Fantastic news. Looks like everyone finally came around to my original point that since we need 3 IOL, spending $25M on Linderbaum would be too much when that figure can get you a quality C and 2 G’s.

Hortiz played it smart. We have several other positions of need besides C.

I like the signing because Hortiz probably got the price tag for not only Linderbaum but McGovern and decided to upgrade the postion at 40-50% of the cost of Linderbaum
Not sure what this means for Zion but I am still not overpaying for Zion Johnson

Getting the other Tyler takes the pressure off and avoids the Linderbaum bidding war that's about to happen. Biadaz meanwhile gets cut and gets a raise. Wash screwed up because they probably could have gotten something back in a trade given the teams needing that position. This is typical Hortiz.

Back in the day, AJ Smith or maybe it was John Butler - but he signed

Randall Godfrey - thumper ILB
Steve Foley - was in Buffalo, went to the Chargers, had one or two very good years before being shot and his career ended

Mike Goff - OG from Cincy -- just a good solid IOL for those years

That was a good solid free agent class. Can only hope Hortiz can do something like --- get good solid players

Chargers signed him to a 3 year deal but my guess, the third year will be just cap. This doesn t preclude the Chargers from draft a Center
It just gives them a floor at Center for about 45-50% of the cost of Tyler Lindrebaum on an AAV
If he can just be the PFF ranked OC like he has been -he was 11 in 2025 - this is a very good signed

I have been on Biadasz since the Commanders released him. 11th ranked center last year, has made a Pro Bowl, played in 31 of his last 34 games. Not as big as Cade Mays but more athletic for MM's system

Joe just saved 14-15 million on Linderbaum that can be used to improve other positions on the roster

Still want a young center like Logan Jones in the 4th

I would not do this either - just take the draft pick and sign a very cheap guy not a WR pushing 30

I listened to every The Athletic Football Show podcast this week - well not todays yet - -but the free agency and WR have not been a good combination.
Overpaid, plus draft picks - bad combination
