I suggested moving Slater to LG and just drafting Freeling but I cannot see Freeling making it to 22. He destroyed the combine. Renner, a bunch of analysts think Freeling could be the best pure left tackle in the draft now.
This scenario as of right now is a real possibility and they just aren’t saying anything. Just move Alt to LT and draft a RT. Theres a bunch.

Slater already has the big payday! I'm pretty sure he would do it if Jim asks him and it makes our team better. Remember Jim saying he would be just fine with OT's all along the line, this may click with Jim at some point with Slater and his thinking.Originally posted by Heatmiser View PostI don't see Slater agreeing to become a guard. He is an elite player at the elite (highest PAID) position on the offensive line. I realize he makes top money now, but if he moves to guard and is awesome and gets stuck there, he just lost a ton of money on his next contract and there is likely some ego to playing LT.
The Elgin Jenkins guy was upset about moving from guard to center for these very reasons.
However if he doesn't fine, we still have options in the draft to get a blue chip OG starter, just have to hope we get TELLER!
WE are all losing it because Hortiz has attacked the oline signing the depth players first, after the draft and IF we get the right olineman in the draft the offseason can be regarded. The whole is greater than the sum. Or depth has been dreadful, that's what it seems like Hortiz is attacking first. Good enough.
Also there could be some surprise vet olinemen cut between now and the start of the season. Hortiz has said on record he's going for a certain type of Oline trait wise. We'll see.
I'm going to be the voice of reason on this going forward because I think I can see what Hortiz is trying to do!

What happens when they take a quick release away?Originally posted by Boltx View Post
I'm not discounting that.
But what happens when good teams take that away?
Easier said than done but it’s an improvement over the no-quick-release Gro scheme, right?
I simply don’t understand the foaming at Hortiz at this point.
We had 3 IOL positions to fill. RG and Center have been upgraded from Becton Bozeman to Strange Badass.
Hortiz is 1 LG away from fielding the entire starting OL and very likely better at all three positions.
In addition, Penning and Pipkins have been signed as backups. It should t be too hard to pick up an additional FA or draft some more backups and potential starters.
Relax, we are in good shape and haven’t shot our wad on overpriced FA’s.

Not sure if being sarcastic but Hortiz praised Taylor for his play to Money Smith against Denver when they played all their starters against us and said Taylor held up well against them so i have possitive thoughts he will take a step up. How far idk but we'll see and i wont write him off.Originally posted by DerwinBosa View Post
You should rule out Branson Taylor. Last offseason I read that Kimani Vidal was useless and shouldn't make the team based off of his shitty performances in limited action as a sixth-round rookie in 2024. Since Taylor had a similar shitty season as a sixth-round rookie this past year, we have to believe that he should look for a job in the UFL soon.

There are supporters on this board...there is some calm on this board... but looking at a wider scope of fanbase and observers, bewilderment rules the dayOriginally posted by jamrock View Post
popper is bewildered. Those Hortiz pressers are gonna be wild
I agree fully with Popper because that is what I have been feeling. If the GM didn't learn from last year..if you wont even spend 11-12 million ona starting calibre guard with all that cap,,,,and do it now when they are available ..just what are you going to do later if the draft doesn't go your way??
If last year proved anything is that once the draft is over there are no avenues to add a decent offensive lineman. Last year ...in pre season...the best OL Hortiz could trade for was Austin Deculus. Let that sink in.
This is exactly where the fan base angst is coming from.
And as for Hortiz "having a plan" he had the same plan the last 2 years. Sometimes when your plan doesn't work you need to be a little flexible and change things up.

Chris Paul I'm not really sure if he has the traits to be in McD's O as a starter, maybe he does! Teller does so we have to be prepared to offer him more than any other team. The Good news is we still have the $$ to do just that!Originally posted by Whydachargers? View Post

100% a real possibility. If lateral movement will damage that surgically repaired knee then you better at least move him inside to Guard to start the season. It makes too much sense.Originally posted by Jack Burton View PostI suggested moving Slater to LG and just drafting Freeling but I cannot see Freeling making it to 22. He destroyed the combine.
