I was responding to the declaration Hart and Still are the best 5th round picks ever as evidenced by their CB performance versus the Browns.

I'll wait until I see how they do against Burrow providing they don't get benched if our two starters return.

This best ever gushing about Minter, DB's, or whoever is like some drooling billionaire owner thinking he got a genius HC just because he was DC of the #1 defense the year before.

I don't get how Staley coaching the #1 defense is irrelevant.

If you bother to go back, this forum was gushing just as hard about Staley when he was hired as Minter after 8 games against powder puffs.

All I'm saying is lets see how the defense holds up against the best offenses we will face down the stretch starting with the Bengals and save a seat on the bus for me.

You see that every week with QBs. They can't possibly see every open receiver with the given time they have and the progressions. Winston isn't exactly a scrambler.

Id have to see those receivers you say are so open though to agree because on one play I saw one but Winston would have no chance to change his position to throw to him so I can't count that one.

The comparison is weak. Staley was a flash in the pan one year with LAR. Looked very inconsistent with LAC.
Minter had very similar success in college and as an assistant with the Ravens.
Surely you admit that the Chargers defense is playing very well indeed?
Is he the best in NFL history remains to be established.
The best record in the 2024 NFL to this point is an established fact.
Can it continue? Yes. Will it? Maybe. I wish him well.

I agree. I think Minter needs to show it for a couple, three years. I would be leery of hiring him after one year. Plus, the job is head football coach - just not Sr Defensive Coordinator. That said, he is doing a helluva job

I cannot take credit for the name - but Haglund on Twitter/X mentioned Lawrence from the Cowboys

Interesting thought - Cowboys won't be able to pay him next year with their cap --they also have to pay Micah -- so might be a good trade candidate

I was hopeful with Staley but didn't feel much like gushing after 8 games into his 1st Chargers season.
"Minter to Canton" is a possibility that seems remote today. That will take several years of consistently being one of the best if not THE Best in the NFL.
But, he has gotten off to a nice start.
