(1) agree, you’re prob right though if 4 GMs all time - who gets to be the official time report? there is a very universal difference between combine and pro daysOriginally posted by Boltnut View Post
(1) A lot of GM's and position coaches are pushing those buttons. I doubt they are biased. In the end, the game tape means a lot.
(2) I think certain guys have better track backgrounds... maybe that gives them an advantage @the combine and @the Pro Days.
(3) There are a lot of really good receivers with bad 40's.
Pro Days are nice because you get to see WR's catching from guys they know. You get to see some things the tape may not present (types of routes not used by the specific teams), fluidity, timing, extra steps... The 40's and verticals are probably the least important aspects of the Pro Days... unless someone just had a bad day at the combine. Bad track shoes... a slight injury... bad sleep the night before on a lumpy pillow...
(2) agree - track is not always same as game.
(3) for every WR that timed slow and became a star, there were 1000 that timed slow and sucked. Its not cherry season yet to go picking them. Speed is good. TT picked far too many slow players (not WR, just in general) that were “football players” and then were slow on the fields vs faster opponents. Te’o is the poster boy but there were a lot. A lot!
I like to look at the drills that force change of direction aka “moves” - that can mean more in terms of getting open underneath. But raw speed is what will keep Safeties deep in their umbrella, not shuttle timesJustin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

agree, and Deebo was not a good fit for Chargers...better runner than WR..... Chargers need a big fast outside all round WR who can run all routes, consitently get open and consistently catch.... none of the WR's or TE's on Chargers can coinsitently get open or catch..... Ladd is only good WR we have and we have zero TE's.... we only have blocking TE's.... our group of TE's is even worse than our group of WR's... likely worst group of TE's in NFL....Originally posted by Formula 21 View Post
Deebo was worth a 5th. Keenan got a 4th in return. Good job Hortiz.
If Loveland is on the board or still on board before DEN picks, we should run to pick him or trade up for him..... he would fill the biggest skill player need our offense has had for years, since Gates retired....... he would open things up for Ladd and any other WR's on our roster now or in future.... and would be a great help for Herbert to have an immeditate outlet/mismatch to throw to when there are blitzes..... TE's are open much quicker than WR's.... Loveland is a huge elite receiver who can actually block and is an ould school tough physical player.....and harbaugh loves him

I agree.... Hortiz knows what he is doing and how to build a team.... Our coaches can take average players who have the right attitude and make them into a very good to great defense.... if guys do not want to play for reasonable money, there are always other options.....we did a great job last year with no money, so Hortiz should really do well with the nearly 100 million he has to work with this season.....Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
Mack has to make sense -- one year, makes sense. If he wants the Von Miller, good luck to him.
I think if they don't have Mack back - that does open a bunch of money to sign other players that could still create a good defense.
next several weeks are going to be very interesting.....

I think if Membou is there at 22, they might pull the trigger. That’s unless they address G in free agency.

IMO, WRs are everywhere. I’d be very surprised if we don’t have a competent WR group this year. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

The Chargers had an easy schedule last year. They beat the bad teams and they lost to the good teams.Originally posted by Charge! View Post

I think this is a good coaching staff, but I don’t think they can just take average players and consistently beat the elite teams. Harbaugh/Minter have an advantage over other NFL teams. They’ve been coaching against these players in the draft and know them like the back of their hand. They were at kitchen tables recruiting them. They had them and lost them as players at Michigan. They’ve coached against them for years. Pete Carroll when he left USC immediately was able to build the Legion Of Boom and draft a 3rd round starter QB for the same reasons. So, I think they have a leg up on the rest of the league for a few years and they need to make it count but average players are average for a reason and they aren’t taking a team to the SB. This team desperately needs elite talent on offense. It’s really bad.

Ha which means they all run slower on game day with soreness 😋. We saw that with Ekeler when he got ran down fast in that game he broke free. Said he had two sprained anklesOriginally posted by Boltnut View Post

Jimmy Johnson also with the Cowboys those first few seasons was able to draft pretty well. Carroll too - so Harbaugh might be able to bring some knowledge that other coaches cannot. As to the Chargers - yes the talent level needs to go up. Some will come from the draft and some will come from free agency and some will come from being in the system for a year. But it will take all three areas to get up to beating the Chiefs, Eagles, Bills, Ravens Texans and holding off the likes of the BroncosOriginally posted by Jack Burton View Post

Just saw this tweet from RapSheet about Adams -- I don't see any team trading for Adams unless its the type of trade where he agrees to a new contract. Even at that probably the best the Jets can hope for is a 5th like the Niners got for Deebo.

Tee Higgins? That Higgins is going to get tagged so not sure why we are still talking about him, the draftee Higgins has been blowing up the combine and fits the mold for what the Chargers need on the outside and it looks very likely that he'll be available to us in day 2...
guys, we need to move on from the whole buying a team thing and buy into the whole let's build our own championship roster thing, I know it's hard to get out of the Telesco and company of coaches shadow, but this is a different era now, we have the right GM and the right HC now, it's time to think about building thru the draft and thru bargain free agency, we've already seen what Hortiz did in one year, so before we shit all over his free agent choices and his draft picks let's keep Poona Ford and Tarhib Still in the back of our minds and imagine the production that these new Chargers will bring...
