Short term: I doubt Hortiz is going to do anything earth shattering. Maybe he brings in a guy like MW or a retread TE — though I kinda doubt it. If he does, that will help the Bolts incrementally, but it won't turn the team into a contender.

Long term: A guy like MW or a retread TE will only marginally improve the team going forward. For us to get to the next level, we need a legit WR1— a dude that can take the top off the secondary — and a sure-handed, reliable TE1.

Chark is a wildcard. Not really sure what to expect, especially coming off a groin injury. He's like Palmer with a little more pop.

I was worried when JH picked him, after watching 7 games I have absolutely no confidence in him. I really welcome him to prove me wrong in the next game and beyond.

My more existential worry now is that I fear Jim Harbaugh is loyal to a fault and if 2024 gets washed away in a Greg Roman inept offensive implosion, will Jim do what is necessary next season?
Agree. The call on 3rd and 4 at the end of the game for a double move to Semi Fehoko was as bad as the jet sweep to Michael Bandy in Jax.

overall, it's an uninspiring offensive design

Surprise surprise! The game was viewable on mobile NFL+ in San Diego county despite the talk that it wouldn’t be due to it being a doubleheader. Even Google hits said it wouldn’t be. Pleasantly surprised.

I think Hortiz knows this is a multi-year rebuild to get to SB-caliber team and I don't see him doing anything much with WR/TE rooms — other than waiting for guys to come off the injury list.

I said from the beginning of the year that I was disappointed in the lack of weapons they surrounded Herbert with. That was a big miss, IMO.

Sure, the ground and pound stuff was supposed to be the new identity...but the best player on the team is Herbert. Give him some dudes to throw to. And we've seen how inconsistent the running game has been.

why not just cut and paste what I replied to him on my post? but yeah, no Fulton, Dissly, Edwards, Perryman, Molden, Bozeman, Hurst, Chark, Gillman, or signing draft picks etc...but we could've kept KA, LOL!

As bad as the OL played at times last night, I did see JK either miss the hole or make the wrong read/cut on multiple carries. 2 and 3 yard gains that if he hits the crease or makes the outside cut and we're talking 5-10 yard gains (at least).

Also the OL was poor in pass blocking at times but when Herbert has to wait for wr's to get separation (or even to get into their routes faster), the OL can only do so much.

BTW-Herbert has to run more, seems there were a couple of first downs that could have been there if he would have just taken off.

I get why people are disappointed about the losing a winnable game like that, but there was some freaky shit going on with the ball early and with the refs late ALL of which went Arizona's way...

I actually take a lot of positives out of this game, Herbert is starting to get in rhythm, he's starting to look more comfortable in the offense the last two weeks and it's happened despite massive disruption to his receiving corps, you guys will say that he faced a shitty defense, but he had his highest passing output of the season two weeks in a row and last week they played a strong Denver defense...

I'm confident that the defense will bounce back, they lost some mojo this week in tackling and mental errors but they are missing some guys on the back end and two 5th round rookies seeing a lot of playing time too, alohi and derwin both made mistakes in coverage too, even though they still managed to keep Arizona under 20 points, I think the guys would agree that they played their worst game of the year...

Hortiz was able to add a lot of depth and a few starters with the money he got back from the KA trade, without that money we wouldn't have been able to add Fulton, Molden, Perryman, Dobbins, Ford, Dupree, Edwards, Dissly, etc etc etc....but go ahead and keep spouting your nonsense, LOL...

Keenan rolled the dice that all those guys would get cut so he wouldn't have to restructure, he almost got his wish too...it's a miracle that Hortiz managed to get a 4rth rounder and two outta the four guys to stay with the Chargers...Keenan proved he didn't give a fuck about improving the team...
                    100%.

                    Also, to add numerical context:

                    Keenan Allen’s cap # - $23 mil
                    (15 catches for 122 yards, 8.1 ypc, 4 of 6 games played)

                    vs

Total cap # of $22.5 mil for the following 12 players:

                    Kristian Fulton - $2.89 mil
                    Will Dissly - $2.63 mil
                    Gus Edwards - $2.25 mil
                    Bud Dupree - $2.35 mil
                    Denzel Perryman - $2.18 mil
                    Poona Ford - $1.79 mil
                    Bradley Bozeman - $1.13 mil
                    Hayden Hurst - $1.13 mil
                    Teair Tart - $985,000
                    JK Dobbins - $1.13 mil
                    DJ Chark - $2.89 mil
                    Taylor Heinicke - $1.2 mil

Pretty incredible moneyball work by Hortiz, especially considering the absolute pig slop mess he was handed.

great post, I forgot about Heinicke and Tart, Hortiz gave us a legit backup and a solid interior guy that is getting a lot of snaps now...yeah it was choice to trade Keenan, fucking hell, can you imagine the roster without those guys, granted not all of them have been hits but damn so many of them have played huge roles and made big time contributions...
