My point is that long-term, Mike Williams will only marginally help this team offensively. Herbert needs a legit WR1 and a someone sure-handed that can pretend to be a TE1. I really don't think that's a lot to ask.
Williams is going to help with contested jump balls down the field, but that is about it. Chark is supposed to fill that role, with the addition of more speed. I think they are just waiting for him to get back and it's close as he is back practicing. I'd rather get a TE and stick with Chark unless we could get Williams really cheap.

This team is morphing into Staley’s team so much I fully expect Hortiz is going to do nothing before the trade deadline just like Telesco did.

Either of those two solitary plays would have been decisive.

Frankly, either Chark or QJ would have helped greatly here, similar to what occurred vs the PIT defense.

Over aggressive defenses and defensive gameplans must get burned with chunk plays and downfield shots.

So the AZ defensive gameplan meant we needed to burn them and create space.

There were key drops by Smartt and Dissly on our crucial final drive which resulted in our 4th field goal.

        McConkey had drops early.

Fehoko was again tackled by the turf monster on what should have been a TD.

Alt had a ill timed false start.

The game was very winnable, in spite of comments from Hortiz wannabees around here, and GRo haters.

With our skill positions depleted, Herbert played well.

So far, it will still be us, Donkeys, Bengals and Colts trying for the final Wild Card spot IMV.
Offensive line got their asses kicked and defense got their asses kicked by James Conner. It was really Murray and Conner for the Cards last night. Those two guys made enough decisive plays to beat us.

I'm afraid the book is out on how to beat this team. Just load up the box and stop the run. Herbert may get yards through the air but no explosives and eventually the offense will fizzle out either in the red zone or elsewhere. That was painfully obvious last night.

The Cards were playing to save their season and did it for another week.

As for Herbert getting rid of the ball quicker, I suppose he could just throw a lot of passes away as nobody is getting any early separation at WR or TE, but that doesn't help anything.

How can you tell nobody is getting separation? Do you get a different broadcast than what we see on national TV?

Brutal loss, and they're just gonna have to learn from it! WR's TE's INTERIOR OLINEMAN! We are clearly seeing where we need upgrades!

I will say this in regard to KC and the league being rigged! They are going on their 3rd superbowl victory and no team has hired their DC to be their HC! Why? Has the league told every team not to hire KC's DC?

Roman would be a better fit with the Cardinals. They have the ground and pound RB and a mobile QB. Roman is dependent on those 2 elements to be successful

Because he was horrible with the St. Louis Rams. He went 10-38 in three years as their head coach. Nowadays you only get a second chance as a head coach with that type of record if you're considered an offensive guru--Josh McDaniels.

And I can just as easily say they would have won going away with an All-Pro center instead of Bozeman, or Chris Jones at defensive tackle.

I like the trio you mention but if we reunited Herbert with Williams for a 7th rounder to add a red zone target and depth for injuries would you object to a move like that?
Seventh-rounder? No, I would not object to that. I do want Hortiz to follow the Ravens' model of collecting as many draft picks as possible, though, so I'm not in favor of making a deal similar to what the Bills did for Amari Cooper.

Like never scoring TDs in the red zone. Scoring 15 points againt a defense that has been getting burned. Like your o line getting dominated in run game and by 32nd pass rush defense. That 32nd pass rush had 3 sacks, we had none. Poor tackling. 2 turnovers. Some crucial drops.

Sometimes the old saying "excuses are for losers" does apply. I am just not playing the excuse card this year. I have seen too much mediocre football from this team, way too many winnable games slip away. As much hype and respect as Harbaugh has been given, and as much faith as I have in him long term, so far what I just mentioned about the Chargers hasnt changed a 3rd of the way into this season. We are still a mediocre 500 football team that gets its wins against the weakest teams on the schedule.

This was a pivotal game that would have put the Chargers at 4-2 with some weak teams ahead and a chance for a bit of a run to change this pattern. But here we are back at 3-3..500. But it wasnt just execution, it wasnt just the refs, the Chargers were out physicalled tonight
Sometimes you end up in a dog fight, it’s the NFL. I know some fans believe every game should be a 40-0 blowout and then it doesn’t matter what the refs do or say. Unfortunately we live in the real world, not fantasy land. If bad calls don’t bother you, the. You are a better man than I am. I have been watching the NFL for over 40 years and I loathe refs and their fixing of games.
