Yeah, you knew something was afoot when we saw the inactive list. It took the pressure off the running backs, it being Hampton's first game, Najee still not in football shape, they knew Spagnuolo probably prepared his defense to defend the run, plus they knew they could beat the Chiefs' pass defense.

Don't make sense. Davis is our return man. So will Haskins be returning punts too?Originally posted by sonorajim View Post
My guess would be "ball control". It wasn't DD but we saw some ugly muffed catches in preseason. Haskins is a big tough dude.
6-2, 228 vs 5-8, 165. DD is definitely a better returner. Haskins is definitely stronger.

Chiefs have a very good defense that is healthy. Our game plan. Our scripted plays. Our execution. Everything about last nights win feels good. I never understood the Herbert fantasy hate. He put up 300 last year hurt and with a weak supporting cast. Now he is surrounded by talent. But more importantly he is 100%. Every week i think we will see different guys balling. Stepping up. But Ladd and Keenan? Those routes? That duo will just open things up for QJ. QJ in condensed splits with Matlock moving around was different. But worked. I want to see better run lanes. But overall we looked solid for our opener last night.
Teams will have fits with Keenan and Ladd. QJ in situational football could be huge this season.
We win the toss. Give the ball to Mahomes. Stop him 3 and out. Then go down and score. Then close the game on a Herbert run? Thats all so new.

Fleet, I think as long as the Bolts let QJ do what he does best--crossers, slants and swing passes, he will do some damage to opposing D's...we don't want QJ running sideline routes where he gets little or no separation...that TD to QJ was a deep crosser--a pattern he runs very well...remember that McConk, Slayer, Tre and KLS will run plenty of other routes in the tree to give opposing D's fits...we need to let our players run the routes they excel in...and now we have a deep stable of horses to do it!Originally posted by Fleet 1 View PostChiefs have a very good defense that is healthy. Totally. But the overload or split with him packaged is a nice way to confuse defenses. Before you even run a route. Been screaming for more condensed splits for a while now. Love that formation for route runners and guys like QJ. You can hide a players weakness amongst other WRs strengths.Originally posted by Topcat View Post

With directional kickoffs now you have to have 2 returners back there. They kicked away from DD. Haskins did so poorly they put Omarion in on the last kick off. Honestly I bet we do not see Haskins back there again. Give KLS a shot.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post
Dont know why we keep Davis and not use him on kickoff returns. He wouldnt be better than Haskins? To just have him return punts, i dont get that.

All I can speak for is last night and last night KC had close to zero pass defense from what I could see at least. Both in pressuring Justin and in coverage of our receivers they resembled a college team playing against a professional team. But I'm hoping you're more correct about their defense than I am. Because that would mean we have a good shot of being successful against any defense we play this year. Keenan makes getting open look so easy. That looks like a huge addition for the offense when McConkey gets double or triple-teamed especially I'd still like to see Gadsden in place of Conklin. Defenses have to account for Gadsden due to his explosiveness after the catch. He could be such a weapon for Justin.Originally posted by Fleet 1 View PostChiefs have a very good defense that is healthy. Our game plan. Our scripted plays. Our execution. This is correct. This will likely be the healthiest version Chiefs defense we'll see against our weakest running game. We've got 2 new RB's (1 Rookie, 1 missed significant practice time), a new G, and reshuffled O-line. It'll take a few games to refine our rushing attack system.Originally posted by Fleet 1 View PostChiefs have a very good defense that is healthy. Our game plan. Our scripted plays. Our execution. Our passing game is considerably ahead of the running game. Credit for McConkey who sprang 2 key blocks for QJ and Allen. Those design plays were solid but McConkey's football IQ allowed said plays to truly succeed. Harris and LKS. Allen's presence allows us an extra reliable target for Herbert and allow gradual growth for Harris and LKS while allowing Roman to feature Johnston on plays designed for his skill set.
If I'm the RB's coach we've done the work in terms of fundamentals, securing the ball, conditioning, etc but now I want to focus on timing and vision.
O-line: Finally Roman run some counter misdirection plays!!!

Conklin is a vet, good receiver and better blocker than Gadsden. I like Gadsden but I don't see pulling Conk to play him. We'll just have to work him in some other way.Originally posted by Whydachargers? View Post

The Chefs did get some pressure early, especially from Karlaftis vs. Pip. Alt was totally studly vs. Chris Jones and whoever else they threw at him--ZERO pressures allowed. In the second half, the Chef D was on its heels, especially the last few of our drives...LOVE IT!!!Originally posted by Whydachargers? View Post
