Doesn't matter what he thinks. It matters what the California Coastal Commission thinks.

What is the contiguous worry here?

That someone might have to walk a tenth of a mile from one part of the convention center to another?

I think it has more to do with what other cities that we are competing together have to offer. I'm not a guy that goes to conventions but I can see the attractiveness of having everything in one contiguous space. If I were the one to decide on how to integrate the convention center with the stadium I'd probably go underground rather than above ground (of course, not knowing what lies in the area when it comes to fault lines) while integrating some sort of moving walkway like they use at LAX.

Contiguous might be a benefit, but San Diego is a bigger benefit. I go to the largest convention in Vegas ever year, it's not completely contiguous and ends up both officially and unofficially all over the strip. It's still Vegas. I think there would be minimal sacrifices made because it's SD.

Disclaimer, I'm definitely in favor of this proposal. City needs to see the big picture for once.

They used to be there at the same time. Stopped a couple years ago, but the interaction between segments of each was pretty damn funny.

Edit: just checked, CES is still 1.

When has the city of San Diego ever seen the big picture?

With SDs awesome weather, the contiguous space shouldn't be as much of an issue.

As to the Chargers wanting to leave town, I think they've made a VERY good faith effort to stay here. They could have left five years ago and I would have put the blame on San Diego. That city was a shithole 20 years ago. Now, it's the Arkansas or Alabama of professional stadiums. That is to say, thank God for Oakland (aka, Mississippi) from making ours the most embarrassing pro sports venue.
