younger people on here don't understand - we had a revolutionary passing attack and were a juggernaut on offense. everyone else ran the ball on first down, while Air Coryell threw it.Originally posted by Charge! View Post
I agree..... im as old as the team....and I remember when coryell took over for a horrible coach ..prothro.... and cheap ass Klein was the owner, who traded away Dean, Johnston, and Jefferson(though the picks we got for Jefferson got us Chandler who was even more gifted..... )...best offense in NFL history.... did it against the raiders HOF defenses, denver crush, and dallas doomsday.... nearly unstoppable.... and defenses could actually hit receivers back then!....one year there were 9 offensive players who made pro bowl.... as starters or backups.... and acutally played in game at same time!....multiple HOFers.....

Wes Chandler was awesome, but i still miss JJ and his acrobatic catches (and the goggles).

what a team - l am a season ticket holder and i always tell my season ticket rep that i want to see a Coryell/Fouts throwback jersey for a game.

some of Fouts' awards:- NFL Offensive Player of the Year (1982)
- 2ร First-team All-Pro (1979, 1982)
- 2ร Second-team All-Pro (1980, 1985)
- 6ร Pro Bowl (1979โ1983, 1985)
- 4ร NFL passing yards leader (1979โ1982)
- 2ร NFL passing touchdowns leader (1981, 1982)

Crazy fact, in 81 Fouts had 33 TD passes but Muncie had 19 rushing Touchdowns, if they threw it in the redzone instead of all those rushing touchdowns he would have had a lot more passing touchdowns.Originally posted by northerner View Post

Darnold has been so up and down in his career, hence my earlier suggestion to offer him a 2+1 deal...but I realize he'll probably get a lot of lucrative offers...Originally posted by jaguarmanftype View Post
Never pay a QB after one good season. I'd tag him, ride him for another year and get JJ McCarthy up to speed. Tag him again the following year, and trade him -- that would be the wise business move.

if he wins the division, and especially a playoff game, his deal price will go up. if i was a GM, i would like to see him win on the big stage.Originally posted by Topcat View Post

if he wins a playoff game, i think minnesota has to keep him. they might already want to keep him anyways.

Whatever O'Connell is running offensively, it seems to elevate even mediocre QBs. If you plug in Derek Carr, Bryce Young, Mac Jones and maybe even Trey Lance in it, I think they would look above average as well.Originally posted by northerner View Post

i agree. finding a good situation is important for a QB. they have a good thing going in minnesota, and that would probably help out any QB - same with Detroit. with a guy like Baker Mayfield, it seems crazy that team were tossing him aside, but he found a good thing in tampa (pass protection and receivers).Originally posted by jaguarmanftype View Post

i watched some of the jets game on sunday, and Rodgers was under constant pressure. maybe he isn't the same player anymore, but that kind of constant pressure would destroy any QB.

It helps to have Jefferson/Addison/Nailor at WR, Hockensen/Oliver at TE and Jones/Akers at RB to go along with O'Connell as the QB whisperer.Originally posted by jaguarmanftype View Post

I saw someone earlier mentioning the high cost of tickets in Vegas. I just looked at the Stub Hub link through the NFL schedule page. 75 bucks 300 level corner end zone and seats under 200 in the 100 level 10 - 20 yard line are there AND they are on the Chargers side of the field. Catch a flight and come join me for the fun!!!

TT can dangle all he wants, it doesn't make sense for Minnesota to take the risk of making the wrong call on their franchise QB on one season from Darnold, their going to want to see it again next year before long term deals get thrown around...besides like Dmac wrote it hurts the Vikings cap wise to trade JJ right now, in 2026 tho that could change...also Darnold has finally landed somewhere where he had the type of offensive palycaller that knew how to use him to his full potential and Darnold has some control over what happens to him going forward, there is like zero fucking chance of Darnold wanting to go that shitshow in Las Vegas, no fucking way, not after everything he's been thru in NY and Carolina...Originally posted by jamrock View Post
I think the Vikes should let it ride for another year as well. But if I'm TT I'm trying to dangle something big for JJ or Darnold.

San Fran seems to be changing their mind about Purdy so maybe the Raiders make a play for Brock, I have a feeling he'll be made available by the 49ers who either have to extend him or trade him and they have salary cap issues, the 49ers will be flushing players this offseason and begin a rebuild...if the Raiders are willing to pay Brock Purdy and give SF a decent return in draft capital they can have a franchise QB next season and Purdy might be agreeable to this because unlike other guys he's not made life changing money yet, so a deal like the one Daniel Jones got in NY might be all it takes to convince a guy like Purdy to go that shitshow in Las Vegas, every body wins, SF gets draft capital they need to rebuild and TT gets to safe face with his boss, AND Purdy gets some life changing income to set up his family for life knowing that his time in Las Vegas will probably be rocky at best..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post.
