For example, people make excuse for Mahomes because he has no WRs but won't use the same excuse for Herbert. Last year's PO game against the Texans is a perfect example.
Herbert threw 4 interceptions in the PO game. Mahomes had 0.

My point is people use the injury card or no weapons card when it suits them and it's irritating.

Herbert hasn't had weapons in the last couple of years, and the PO game was a perfect example. Also, the offensive line played horrible, but we all know it was Herbert's fault (sarcasm).

Mahomes threw 2 INTs in the SB. I guess you picked a PO game you liked?

I don't disagree Herbert's last PO game was worse. I agree with Coach Jim that the team let him down and needs to do better for him.

On the up: His last reg season game was better than Mahomes. A good friend told me to not make any rash existential conclusions based on one game recently. I hope to see 2025 as the year Herbert proves to his critics that his prior PO games are merely data points and not eternal truths. its gonna be a long 17 weeks until we start to find out, I hope we don't debate it every day until then. I saw everything that others saw in his first 5 years, lets put a pin in it for now and see what happens on Monday for starters.

If looked at objectively, both Herbert and Mahomes were handicapped by either a lack of receivers in Herbert’s case or receiver injuries/suspension in Mahomes case.

Now that Herbert’s receiver corp has been upgraded we see how much more potential his passing attack is.

Likewise, If Worthy and Rice are healthy and play in our December matchup I doubt anyone would say that won’t help Mahomes.

Yes, I realize there are a lot of commentators that ignore what surrounds QB’s. As with Herbert last year, I’m hearing the same thing about Mahomes after this one game with no accounting for the team that surrounds him. That’s football.

Harbaugh says he’s gonna get Herbert into the Hall of Fame. Well Herbert is not going to get there handing off to the RB all game. So I’m hoping this shift to a downfield passing game is permanent.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
              Let’s win one for Mack.

Imagine for a moment, that when Herbert entered the league, he had a good coach. Mahomes started with Andy Reid, regarded as a HOF coach, and we had Lynn, first time head coach and no longer even a co ordinator at this point. Yes, things are different, but the reason Herbert has such a wide swing on his talent, is because he has still shown a skill at qb, only matched by a few. Hopefully, Herbert can excel while winning and switch the narrative.

It is ESPN’s fake QB ratings that significantly de emphasize passing the ball and give tons of rating points for running it. It was designed to make bad QBs that can run look like they are better than the QBs that can pass. It needs to be mocked and laughed at, it taken seriously.

Let's see if Herbert and the Chargers can keep it going in Vegas. This isn't the Antonio Pierce Raiders. They will be better.

The idea Herbert and the Chargers are ignored, disrespected, and maligned by national media is way overdone on this forum, IMO.

Sure there’s the one or two off, Acho’s, but that’s not the majority opinions.

                      Case in point.

On Stephen’s A-List this morning on ESPN…..arguably one of the most popular and viewed ESPN shows he listed his top 5 NFL teams and the other 4 commentators mostly agreed with the ranking.

                      PHI
                      BUF
                      GB
                      BAL
                      LAC

Still feel disrespected? Well how do you think the Texans feel who absolutely kicked LAC’s asses 8 ways to sundays the last time we played?

Look, I’m not arguing with the Stephen’s take….I’m just saying the whining about Herbert and the Chargers getting no respect is out of touch with reality.

JJ McCarthy won the game on a run. Herbert won on a run. Mahomes runs for critical first downs almost every game.

I believe GM’s place a higher value on “mobile” QB’s versus pure pocket passers than they did in the past and justifiably so considering how much harder they are to defend.

Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes are the past three league MVP’s. All extremely mobile QB’s.

I don’t think there’s “bad passing” starting QB’s in the league so that’s a misnomer to begin with. But if a bottom tier passer can run it obviously improves his capability to win games.

We saw that with Trey Lance in preseason.

Outside of TPB, because we emotionally and irrationally hate all things Chiefs, I actually did hear many experts point to Rice and Worthy as Mahomes missing pieces Friday and how Worthy going out the first series was a brutal blow to their entire game plan. But have no doubt - a lot of experts that wrote LAC off were suddenly talking about the Chargers after Friday night.

Its a team sport, I don't care that Mahomes is not blamed for their losses. I don't think he should be. he's the best player on their team, they would have lost by at least 14 if he's not on the team Friday night. I don't look at him for reasons they lost. By that very same token - Herbert has been blamed for a shit supporting team and staff FAR TOO OFTEN in his career. that just goes with the $50M paycheck, he doesn't sweat it. smart people know - everyone in the Chargers building know.
