I'd be interested in hearing an objective (not coming from anyone inside the organization) opinion about Branson's future prospects.

If Branson develops into the same level quality as Joe Hortiz' 5th rounders, it would be a highly significant boost to the O-line group. The idea doesn't seem preposterous to me, because it's broadly recognized that his draft status was impacted by the serious knee injury he suffered as a senior. Minus the injury, he would clearly have been drafted earlier than the 6th round, where Joe Hortiz claimed him.

So, again... I want to read an eval of Branson by somebody who's in the position to know.

His biggest issue is he keeps getting injured.
He was drafted injured. At Pitt he tore his MCL and meniscus. Then he got injured again in August at TC.
The guy just needs to get healthy and have a fair shot going into TC this year.

I mean he’s the 4th (?) string OT so I’m not surprised he can’t hold up in pass protection. At best you use him for a few series or a game like when they benched Hart for him against the Texans. I don’t think he’ll be back necessarily but he offers more in the run game than the others I listed. Plus you never know if he’s salvageable under Butch.

I’ll be excited to see if he can get more out of Branson Taylor this year. I think Branson Taylor will be the backup LG this year. I’d like to see them bring in Will Hernandez to battle it out at RG. He’s over a year removed from his injury.

          LT Slater
          LG Zion
          C Linderbaum
          RG Risner
          RT Alt

          Backups
          OT Max Mitchell
          G Will Hernandez
          G Branson Taylor
          OT Jamaree Salyer
          G Ar’maj Reed-Adams

I’m all over the board on how they should attack the IOL. I just know they need to sign 2 free agents on the IOL. One of them might be a resign like Zion.

Hiring McDaniel tells me they will pay to solve the interior O line problem. They don’t have time to experiment and hope a couple “rookies” pan out.
I can see one rookie possibly like Ioane being drafted as he’s considered a plug and play guy but I think C and RG will be addressed in FA.
I think they will go big at C, G and WR in FA.

              LT Rashawn Slater
              LG David Edwards (Bills)
              OC Connor McGovern (Bills)
              RG Brian Parker (Duke)
              RT Joe Alt

For depth, I'd sign some free agents from teams that are over the cap: Chiefs, Dolphins, Browns, Jaguars, Saints, Bears, Lions, Texans, Bills, Packers, Giants. Or look for free agents from teams that run wide zone concepts: 49ers, Falcons, Dolphins, Lions, and Vikings.
              Protect the QB
              Run the ball
              Play great defense

Nailed it. Cmon, Hortiz. Spend that coin.

I don’t understand the love for Risner. He’s a journeyman that I believe got benched in Cincinnati.

Maybe as depth...? But I wouldn't want him starting. There are a number of quality OG's in the draft. I'm not sold on Zion either. It seems we could do better in free agency. Maybe the idea is that Linderbaum will make both OG's better...?

Risner is a depth piece that can battle against a rookie for the starting spot. He had a good year in Cincy.
