agree. Only question I have is how long before they admit the mistake and move on. Bye week? Or let it fester all season?

Depends on how hot Jim genuinely feel the heat under his own seat. If Justin decides to stay one more year to see out his contact (penultimate year?) through, he may go to bat for Jim because he is that sorta loyal person. He may just decide to pack it all in after Harbaugh and retire. Many people see similar trajectory with Matthew Stafford which can happen in theory but what I see with Herbert specially if he gets married to his girl this offseason is to get into parenting soon after he sees his contract through. I don't see a Kelly Stafford and 4 kids in tow attending Daddy Matthew's type of ending in his future.Originally posted by jamrock View Post

On McD if the season is a tank job, firing him can be a double edged sword type of decision. A 6-11 type finish like the Chiefs last year doesn't really help a battered team with so many holes for 2027.

We as Charger fans have endured so much over the years but this season has to be the biggest disappointment ever.
Not only 0-5, a league wide laughing stock, the most painful, dreadful offense to watch imaginable, with no player on offense on the top of their game...we have had to watch our best player fucked with and regressed into the 31st QB in the league.
Colossal disaster off season and hiring.

The first Stafford-esque thing I see Herbert doing is not pumping 4 kids out of Madison, but asking for a trade from this bad organization to save his career.Originally posted by Factotum View Post

Yeah I don't see that with their future nest building plans either. I am very curious to see if Justin can be more successful elsewhere so it will not bother me if he decides to alter his own future for the same curiosity elements but if he decided to remain a faithful QB to his one and only with fealty to his HC, he will have then made his own bed, come what may.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

Naturally it is a lot more sensible and convenient to throw this OC under the bus than canning many players drafted by the same FO. McD has been in tis league for far too long at every conceivable coaching position not to know this. The way in which the McD and Herbert situation has made the latter regress, does not bode well for Joe to get a Stafford-esque 3 1st picks the way things are morphing.

Herbie is signed at LEAST through the end of the 2028 season, IF the Bolts choose to use the out on his deal and let him off the hook before the 2029 season...the only way Herbie leaves earlier than that is if the Bolts trade him for picks and/or players, or if Herbie pulls a Moaning Mel...Originally posted by Factotum View Post

Bigger problem is do you try to run it back next year and hope it all clicks like Shanahan’s 0-9 start? Or hire a 3rd OC in 3 years?Originally posted by jamrock View Post

In every pro sport there is...bad coaching is shown the door before the star players. When many players are playing their worst football you have a coaching problemOriginally posted by Factotum View Post

And this has been bad coaching of the highest degree. Worst install of an offense imaginable, no players playing to their potential..and the crowning achievement, being given a Pro Bowl QB and turning him into the worst QB in the NFL this year that throws for 150 yards a game. Most didn't think such a thing was conceivable.

No way no how that the Chargers let him just walk away for nothing. They own his rights until 2030.Originally posted by Topcat View Post

1. Simplify the playbook
2. Dial up short routes to negate most of pass rush
3. Run the rock. Again.
4. Dial up a few screen passes, for crying out loud.
5. Lose the trick plays or weird plays
6. On 3rd and short, run the rock...but vary it with an I-formation and fake to upback and give to tailback off tackle...anything but the same predictable up the gut calls for nada...
7. Drill into Herbie the importance of throwing it away instead of risking the pick
8. When in doubt on 4th down, punt instead of going for it and losing, and giving opposing team short fields
The Donks game was winnable, especially had we done even SOME of the above...Last edited by Topcat; 10-12-2026, 12:34 PM.
