No single transaction guarantees a comp pick, which is the point. It is the NET exchange.

No team can control the picks completely, but the rules are there and you can control it to some degree.

The don't give up the formula directly, but people have reverse engineered it (see links), and everyone has a pretty good idea how it works.

The most important part of the comp pick formula is that all of this years losses figure in next year. Losing Oweh may well net us a 3rd if we sign no more FA, but an extra 2027 3rd round pick at the END of the 3rd round won't help us this year.

Of course depending on what we do with FA's. At this point, im thinking we wont trade him but you never know what they have in mind coming up to the draft.

I probably wouldn't trade him - he is making 2.8m -- just don't pick up the option. I mean, if he has a good year, his salary will be in the same price range. I think he will be better with McD and if next year, he gets a Doubs contract, good problem to have

Right, which is why with $100m of cap space - I think Joe could have been more aggressive - especially getting Biadasz for 10 and Mack for 18
And that may not have meant OG. Maybe it was CB or Edge that is better than Dupree
I know he has a plan though

I'm intrigued most by Derwin. He’s a FA and will be close to 30. I was hoping they extended him this offseason. I think a 2 year extension in good. I’d be ok with a 3 year but no more than that. Or does Hortiz want to get a comp pick for him. I just think he’s the heart and soul of the D. I don’t think they could afford to lose the two most influential players on your D in one offseason in Mack and Derwin.
If Derwin's deal is 3 years, I'd like an out after 2...

I’m sure there would be, there usually is with 3 year contracts.

My thing with a Derwin extension is something like 3 years, so through 2029 - but it really is through 2028 - meaning I think Derwin will still be good in 2026 and 2027 for sure, probably 2028 but 2029 be one of those - if you keep him, its a 25m cap hit, if you release - its 10m of savings type deals - so we agree. It is how you play the game, push the larger numbers back...
