I was in on Linderbaum until I saw the price tag. And once they signed Biadasz and his PFF score (which was better than the other options, McGovern, Fortner, Mays)-I though good signing. That makes sense - don't need to get into a bidding war over Linderbaum

I just wanted sure fire upgrades at OG and if that meant he spent more - so be it. Because here is the thing for Hortiz and the org - if they go cheap and it fails, fans will not be happy. If he had said spent the 60/4 on McGovern or 33/3 for SEumalo, fans would probably have still been pissed if the player sucked and would question his ability to identify OG- but at least he tried.

I hope Cole Strange works. All offseason I wanted the floor raised. And I guess, Stange and Penning are no worse than Becton and Zion. I think Biadasz, thats a good signing.
Strange is better than 2025 Becton. 2nd-half (2025) Strange is a LOT better than Becton. And 2nd half Strange in a wide zone is A WHOLE LOT better than big fat wheezing lead-footed power blocking Becton who can't hit a guy in open space of the guy stops and stands there for him.

That said, I also wanted more for IOL. I'm just less concerned than most here.

Bozeman's weekly scores really underlined how useless PFF grades can be. We got our own lyin' eyes, we know what we saw.

        How so?

After the injuries we had 5 o lineman at the very bottom of the PFF grades and that is EXACTLY what we saw on the field every week. Bozeman was ranked 41st of centres and that is exactly what he looked like on the field

I don't see the huge disconnect between the scores and the play we witnessed with our own eyes

Unfortunately when we are talking about Charger IOL we have been residing at the very bottom of the PFF grades.

How about we look at the top for perspective. Here are the top 3 graded guards last year. Is there any player here that you would not want to see on the field in powder blue?
          1. Quinn Meinerz (DEN) - 88.9
          2. Chris Lindstrom (ATL) - 88.4
          3. Kevin Dotson (LAR) - 87.3
Perhaps these grades are not as useless as some like to suggest when it doesn't fit their narrative. The top and the bottom ranks seem to correlate pretty well with the game on the field.

Now like any numbers and stats, in any field, any profession, this is data that is one tool available to be used accordingly with other methods and assessments. It is not gospel, merely an analytical tool.

But PFF is not as useless as some like to portray here. In fact it is used by the professionals.

All 32 NFL teams use Pro Football Focus (PFF) data. Teams utilize PFF’s detailed, play-by-play grading and signature stats for player evaluation, opponent scouting, and game planning, with many teams integrating this data into their internal systems,

I think the problem is that some people don't realise the OL works in unit
If Zion Johnson is your worst OL, you can be good
If he is your best, you are in trouble !

That is how I feel about Cole Strange. If he is our weakest link in 5 lineman that is fine. if he is our best guard, not so good.

Maybe I'm crazy. Definitely possible. I thought you posted something like a PFF grade of 95.something was lousy. That was the source of my disbelief.

Here's an example leading to my question about PFF relevence,

That grade you were puzzled with is a different type of grade sonorajim than the standard pass blocking grade we see the most. I think that was pass block efficiency rate where the numbers are much higher

The numbers tend to indicate that normal pass block grades for an average starter are near perfect. I had no idea that normal starting OGs are near perfect at pass blocking, my being a Chargers fan.
