Didn't start the Tennessee game either. It's a sign that the coaches don't give a rat's ass about silly distinctions like "start" and will play the player they see is best for each specific situation. No square pegs/round holes. For whatever reason, what the Chargers wanted to do on the first set of downs in 2 games is better suited to Woodhead than Mathews. If the staff decided they wanted to go with an all wide-out/no TE set for the first play, that would not be an indictment of Gates, would it?

Time to start a trade Mathews thread. It probably won't last but a page or two. I don't think he has any real value. Sure as hell won't get a 1st day pick for him.

Matthews will be cut after this season, no trade possible, IMO. Same with English, McClain, Whiteworst, and 25 other guys.

Doubt he's outright cut, his contract is guaranteed. He'll take over the Ronnie Brown role as 3rd RB.

English, Whitehurst are FA's. McClain should be cut.

That plus the free agents will leave the Charers with 15 players. That's a lot of players to sign in free agency.

The Chargers don't even have 15 players WORTH keeping. LOL! Seriously, I'd be hard pressed to find 15 players on the roster right now (not counting IR) that other teams would even want. Let's see:

3. Weddle
4. Luiget
5. Reyes
6. Butler
7. Woodshed
8. VBrown
9. Allen
10. JJ
11. Fluker

12. Williams (total unknown)
13. Te'o (maybe)

Um...this is getting harder (I'm not looking at a roster)
