Kelly and Co were doing that before the rule change about substitutions. It was there goal to create mismatches by not allowing the D to sub in players. Today a good offense can still dictate pace without getting ahead of themselves. Under Norv we dictated nothing. Our pace was set by the play clock. If MM brings improves anything I hope its the offensive tempo which starts with getting the damn play in, in a timely manner.
Feeling pretty good about McCoy and the new staff

When you look at the coaching history of the Chargers pretty much every single one of them was offensive in origin: Gilman, Coryell, Saunders, Henning, Gilbride, Turner and, now, McCoy while the rest were more of a traditional football coach (not linked too much to either side of the ball): Prothro, Ross, Marty. OK, don't remember much about Svare other than he needed to be sacked. I don't like the hiring of McCoy, I wanted an emphasis on defense for once in the 50+ year history of this team.

Hard to argue with Den60 here (I almost choked typing that), but he's right. McCoy hasn't done anything yet. Encouraging so far, but let's see him at least run a preseason game first before dubbing him the next Lombardi.

Re:McCoy as a motivator. From what I have read and heard and seen, I don't think he is going to be a rah-rah, cliche speech machine like a Schottenheimer. Or a jump up and down and spit and scream guy like a Cowher. I think the way he is going to motivate is by fear. He seems very no nonsense. Like cutting a player tomorrow is not going to make him think twice. Or sitting a player for screwing up. Jimmy Johnson was interviewed last season and he said fear is a great and vastly underused motivator in the NFL today. Players who got 4th and 5th and 6th chances in the past on this team might find out they only get one now. And in the long run, I would rather have a motivator like that because it is more enduring. Everyone gets tired of the speeches after a while and tunes them out (just ask my kids!)
TGLike, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.
