    Royal restructures

@UTgehlken: Chargers WR Eddie Royal has restructured his contract. Was previously set to earn prohibitive $4.5 million base salary with $6M cap hit.

Curious if this ends up being an extension or a straight pay cut.

    I vote straight pay cut.

    Thanks Eddie.

He did take a pay cut.

      Th
e veteran wide receiver has agreed to a contract restructure, a source said Monday, ensuring his place on the roster in 2014. Royal was previously set to earn $4.5 million in base salary with a $6 million cap number. Both numbers have been reduced, although specifics were not immediately available.

        How nice of him.

The cynic in me says there must be something he got in return other than guaranteed money, maybe a signing bonus spread over 3 yrs and increasing salary.

This is awesome news, means we have two bonafide WRs for 2014.

TT, bring in a couple more?

Eddie Royal took reduction in base salary, but it comes fully guaranteed with incentives to help offset difference, per source.

                Lamesky. Extra guaranteed money?

IT really depends how much. Guaranteeing league min is pretty low risk for us. If he gets more, then the element of risk goes up.

That they converted it to incentives is the key. If I remember correctly there have likely to be earned and not likely to be earned incentive designations. The latter would count towards next years cap if he reaches those incentives. Since we have a ton of room next year, I suspect they don't mind pushing a few bucks over + it keeps that carrot in front of the player. Either way we keep a productive player in a position of need.

Now the thing I have been dreading all night, do you suppose this means Floyd is done?

All signs seem to be pointing in that direction. They need to plan based on the assumption he won't be there. Even if he makes it to training camp, it doesn't mean he will be able to make it all the way through.
