Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel reportedly are lowering their free agent asking prices - https://sports.yahoo.com/news/kimbre...034042496.html Maybe this will finally help these free agent All-Stars find a home.

Absolutely dont need Kimbrel imo. We do a pretty good job of developing high leverage pitchers. Hand . Yates. Stammen. We could probably sell Yates for another prospect and not lose a step with Stammen. He is an important bridge though.

We really need a legit Ace. Id love Keuchel.

Agree, I'm not interested in Kimbrel.

          Padres look like turd now.

We traded La Mole and two other guys for somebody who hasn't proven he can hit AA pitching. All the baseball experts seem to be calling this a winning trade for us, but I don't see it. The Pads don't give their youngsters much of a chance unless said youngsters are great right off the bat like Tatis has been. The rest of our supposed future stars either ride the bench or get shipped back to the Minors. One can't really get better against Major League pitchers by sitting on the bench or swinging the bat in an offense-oriented AAA league. It took Renfroe years and years of living the Padre life before becoming an adequate starter. No other hitter has really improved under Padres management. Margot and Myers have got worse. Our catcher has got worse. Urias and Naylor have got little opportunity to improve and probably never will. Our now departed Reyes was one of the few who got good quickly, and now we've shipped him off for a talented guy who hasn't yet proven he can hit any better than Michael Jordan could. Talent is nice in baseball, but the biggest question for a hitter is whether one can hit. We know Reyes can. The guy we got in return for him, so far, can't. And, with our track record of developing young players, my guess is that guy will never be a star for us.
The only upgrade I really see with the trade is in fielding. Reyes's inconsistent rotating band of replacements are all better fielders than him, but that won't make up for the power and team chemistry we lost with his departure.

I hear ya. Reyes is good offensively but he wasnt that good an outfielder so he is a perfect DH candidate. Wish they had gotton a pitcher instead of the Double A guy. Margo was supposed to be our crown jewel CF and he hasnt hit well. Hedges still cant hit so catcher has to be in the mix though Mejia has come around a bit.
Urias just looks over matched at the plate. Sure they need to play but you cant have a lineup full of guys that arent hitting either if you want to win games because the pitching has been terrible.

Urias pisses me off. He absolutely destroys pitching in 3A but sucks hard in the pros. Id trade him for Syndergaard. Franmil is a DH. Watching him play OF was brutal. Need to get out of this Myers contract.

But yeah we look terrible. Watch this be a total fluke year for Renfroe and Reyes puts up 50HRs with 600 ABs a year at dh.

Urias needs time to learn to hit Major League pitching. He needs to play consistently though. This year is a lost cause. Play the guys we plan to start next year.

At least Paddack and Tatis are rock solid. Those could be our homegrown versions of Lindor and DeGrom.

Paddack and Tatis are examples of guys who were good from day 1. The Padres philosophy doesn't appear to focus on developing anybody. Under Preller, only one guy, Renfroe, has got better with age, and that took quite a few years for that to happen. It is hard to get better when one doesn't get consistent playing time at the Major League level. The Pads need to decide who they see as their long-term starters and start starting them every day. Stop starting and then sitting guys. Nobody gets better that way, at least not very quickly.

Just goes to show Triple A pitching isnt near as good as MLB ptiching and why i wonder why Preller or Green, ...whoever is making these calls keeps bringing up these Double A pitchers to the club. So stupid to bring them up, start them and take them out after 1 inning. Thats great on your bullpen eh? Green needs to be replaced imo.

OR, Urias is just one of those guys who never gets better in the Majors and is just a good Triple A player who peaked out there. Happens to many.

I am not baseball smart enough to know if Urias has Major League skills. I do know that, if the Padres think he does, they need to put him on the field every game to let him develop those skills. And, if they think Urias is a never-will-be, they need to leave him off the club and give the job to somebody else. Rotating him in and out of the lineup and up-and-down from the Minors isn't doing him or the team's future any good. We could get lucky and have it work out, but, as anybody who has ever been responsible for professional development of employees could tell you, inconsistent management decisions reduce the odds for success. This whack decision making is what has kept us from developing any of our young hitting prospects. Tatis is one in a million. We can't rely on Urias and the rest of our youngsters to be stars the moment they walk on the field. We have to give them the opportunity as every day players to hone their skills and improve.

Are these crap decisions really Green's? Perhaps. If so, Preller needs to make a change ASAP before all our highly-rated prospects are wasted.

That being said, the lack of improvement from our young players precedes Green. So perhaps he isn't the one making the calls. If it is Preller that is making these decisions, we need to relieve him of that responsibilty and let him stick with what he has been good at - building that farm system. Let somebody else decide who makes the Major League club and who starts.

Padres still suck this season, but Tatis, Jr., is awesome.
