Personally I think they should sign Jeremy Parnell to be the starting RT and cut Tevi. (PFF gave Parnell a grade of 65.3 vs Tevi's 53.7)
He wouldn't be that expensive, and he's a fairly significant upgrade at the position.
Pipkins can be depth this year while he develops his skills and would hopefully be ready to take over in a season or two.Russell Okung when his current contract is finished.

The Parnell thing will just depend on how many other teams are talking to him right now. There will be a mini-blitz on guys like him here once we get into the May 10th, "end of compensatory" pick determination time period (friday May 10th). His is a name that may attract some attention.
The downside of a guy like Parnell is that he has never been a very good player, and while he is somewhat better than Tevi, he is as good as he is going to get. Not many 33-year-olds suddenly find the fountain of youth and start playing better. Tevi is younger now, with a single year of (real) experience than Parnell was when he first made the Cowboys roster. and that doesn't include his later back and forths as a blocking TE.

a good left tackle is so important in this age of the passing league. we were a pretty darn good line when we had McNeil, Dielman and Hardwick from left to center. funny thing is LT, our HoF RB, set that ridiculous record with them helming the left side.
I think part of Phil's growth was actually due to him having a subpar line after those glory mid-late 2000's. Phil has learned how to get rid of the ball out quick under great duress. But if he can get that line again...WHEW!!!
