Eric Williams 53 man roster projection has us keeping Jones and cutting Stick - ugh, please no!
I would puke if we kept Jones over Stick...I can't believe for a minute that will happen.
I also would like to keep Peace over Lanier...I like the potential there, even if Lanier would bring some vet savvy to our dline depth.
I also don't believe we let CB Williams go, and think Patton will stay instead of Davis. But with the exception of Stick, these are all close decisions, and I'm just another fan with an opinion.
Just wondering what the preseason stats are for Jones and Stick.

I don't care what the stats are. Jones is geting some stats with 2nd string guys he has played with. That gives him a big edge. Stick is getting it done with a cast of characters he hardly knows. But neither is even close to Tyrod.
Jones still has upside, but is getting close to the age where he is what he is going to be. Stick has more poise and pocket presence and that gives him somewhat of an edge right now. I don't think either is ready to be an NFL Backup, so the TT trade is very dicy unless we can get something pretty good for him.
I would be willing to give Jones another chance, but he needs to play, so his best bet is to send him to the XFL and then bring him back to the camp again to try.
I would like to find a way to keep Peace and Lanier. Not sure it will happen, but it nice to think about.
Other: Starting strong safety Derwin James underwent surgery last week on a stress fracture in his foot and will start the season on injured reserve. He won't be eligible to play in a game until Week 9.

Jones is not a tradeable commodity he is hanging by a thread on the verge as a possible cut, why would any one trade for a player that could be picked up for free once cut.
You realized if Rivers went down last year it would of been Geno Smith, with Cardale in the reins as the backup it would probably be just as worst if that trade for Taylor materialized because it would be Cardale just because he is a vet and Stick if Rivers went down which would be no better than last year. Just food for thought, but I don't think Taylor getting traded.
I never said we would get much for Cardale in a trade...the point is why would you trade out a starting capable Taylor and be left without a capable backup. Geno is better than Jones but we would have been considerably hampered if Rivers went down. Taylor has looked very good and presents a lot for defenses to game plan for. Cardale you simply blitz the guy and he is toast most the time.
Dont get rid of a proven commodity at a critical position when you dont have a viable backup. Frankly Id rather start Stick over Cardale...at least he has some fire in him and potential but he isnt ready...he needs experience and practice to be a good qb that can read nfl defenses...i think he could get there but im not willing to throw in the towel on the season if we are in the playoff hunt. I think Taylor could run this offense and at least be a threat right now.
ESPN has their final 53 projections for all teams up.
The Athletic has an article about which position groups each team is overstocked and understocked at.
Have at it TPB treasure hunters...find us an OT.

These are my offensive tackle candidates.
There is a pretty good chance they get cut.
They are in their mid 20s in age.
The scheme fit, experience, training, and previous coaching look acceptable.
TBH my prediction is we roll with Drango @ OL#9.
My surprise vet cuts... Watt, Trevor Williams. First guy back has to be Teamer, after James gets put on IR. I think they expose Jones to waivers, Stick is too enticing for QB starved teams, but you will need to find a team that is really bad off at the #2 that is willing to take on a project on their 53... and the Cardinals fit that.

I would not be surprised if Williams is cut, especially with how much they seem to like Davis and how Lynn has expressed frustration with his lack of progress getting healthy. Lynn doesn't usually do that to a player. I do find it pretty annoying that they are hiding what his actual injury is. It's preseason and we know everybody else's injuries, aches and pains but his - why the secrecy here?
I don't think so...really...they targeted him with a fifth as a developmental guy going forward. I think Cardale would have had to show huge strides, or Stick would have had to look lost. Cardale played better this year, but not enough IMO. I think the only way Stick is on the practice squad is if we carry 2 Qbs. Just don't see it.
