I was expecting someone to challenge my not-so-well-thought-out theory that we were in total rebuilding mode because (other than Freeney) we haven't signed anyone that's either 30 or expensive (by citing the Starks signing).

Well, that answers my first question: He has not signed with another team. As for waiting...I suppose that's an option. You risk have some other team sign him, of course.

The ILB group the Chargers have now is not bad IMO. DJ Smith and Gachkar are nice backups with upside.

Sometimes what they think does not make sense to me. Nothing has happened to change where Williams stood at the end of last year to the beginning of this year. It would be different if he were brought in and the team could see he had nothing left.

Obviously, Butler can excel against the pass and run and I think Te'o will be solid against the run, but many have suggested that he is a two down ILB in that he may not be able to defend as effectively against the pass. We will find out about that soon enough, so he is a maybe versus the pass. I think the other ILBs are clearly not pass defenders, so I think it is a problem not having that known pass defending ILB (like Edwards, Burnett, or Williams).

Bird is pretty good in coverage, but extremely one dimensional.

Pretty much this. Awful in run defense. He's pretty good in space though in coverage.

Well, now that Starks is gone, I'll use my "I don't know why" cop out answer for Brown, instead. Although Brown also appears to be in jeopardy of not making the team. Maybe Telesco/McCoy, after a full TC of seeing what we've got (and don't got), have finally embraced the 'R' word...except for Freeney, of course.

Ronnie Brown can pass block. We need as many pass blockers as we can get.

I'm keeping Brown. He was just too valuable last year and looks the same to me this year. No need for him to play in exhibition games to make the team either.
