We need at least 2 TE's in our offensive system especially considering we are having injury issues with WRs. Gates at least is a stopgap to give us time for Virgil and Culkin to recover. I can't see not grabbing someone and no other TE is going to know the system like Gates....he's kind of ideal IF we got into this situation. He may not be what he was but he knows the role and can come in for snaps and contribute more than a raw TE from off the street.
Only other thought is putting Gordon and Ek together and creating some mismatches, however where we will have issues is teams that blitz and try to take out Rivers. A good TE on the line is harder to replace for protection IMO.

How many TE's do we have to lose to injury before calling Gates? The football gods are demanding it. For the love of all that's good and holy, call Gates. If for no reason other than to save the remaining TE's we have from season ending injury. It won't stop
