There are starting to become more QBs in the league who can make their O line look good by using their mobility to avoid sacks and find time in the pocket.

Unfortunately, Rivers doesn't have that sort of ability except for a play here and there.

The era of "statue QBs" is coming to an end. Brady, Brees, Rivers, Rivers, Flacco, Stanford are the last of it.

It's about mobile QBs who can make their O line look good now (Mahomes, Wilson, Watson, Jackson, Allen etc). At the minimum, need the mobility of a guy like Aaron Rodgers who has pretty decent wheels while being an elite pocket passer.
Tom Telesco’s Results in 9 years as Chargers GM:

    - 69-74 record
    - 0 division titles in 9 yrs as GM
    - Worst record among all active GMs with same tenure
    - 6th worst winning percentage among all active GMs overall
    - 2 playoff wins despite elite QB all 9 yrs
    - Team still has the same weaknesses (Oline and run defense) that it had when hired as GM in 2013
    - Consistently puts together horrible depth, expects starters to never miss games

Yeah,...but how many mobile QBs have won a SB the last 5 or 10 years? Wilson has 1
....who else? You can even count the losing teams in the SBs.
Telling ya,it isn't many and these mobile guys are always injured. Look at Rodgers. He always seems to be injured the past 4 or 5 seasons. Watson missed an entire year, Allen is in concussion protocol. Wilson was banged up pretty good a couple years ago with a knee.

Wilson and Watson always lead the league in most sacks taken. Jackson wasn't that good with it last season either. Been sacked 15 times already after being sacked 16 times last year in 8 games.

Without a really viable backup I think the team signs him for a 1 year extension and goes from there. Gives both Rivers and the team time to decide if they want to go any longer past that.

Yeah, even banged up, Wilson's durability in this can't be discounted. RGIII, Mariota, Manziel they're all frail and were touted by some as gamechangers instead of bandaid changers; Garoppolo got killed on a run too. Too many of these guys get destroyed trying to run.

Yes, Rivers sees the stadium next year. He even starts our games at QB in it before 40k fans, 25k of which are from the other team and 30k empty seats.

And almost any NFL QB would have won that SB for the Seahawks. Complete defensive domination.

Spending 40-50-60 million whatever it is....to bring back a QB at his age is probably not smart. Does anyone really think he's going to get better at this point or will his game start to decline?

Through out his career he's had a good running game, good OL, good D, and good WRs....now these haven't always been at the same time and they probably never will. Yet, other then one time (maybe 2), we've never been a serious SB contender. Many of those years we couldn't even make the playoffs.

Imo not having a contract for next year is a MUCH bigger deal then some think!
Chargers are 26th in rushing since 2006. You think that's a good running game?

Defense has been good only a handful of years.

O-line has been among the worst in the NFL for most of his career.

There have been a few good WRs come and go, but there's been more Inmans, Benjis, Ajirotutus, etc and of course the injuries.

The few times the team around Rivers wasn't bad, we had bad luck. Injuries, missed kicks, and dropped INTs in the playoffs. And who could forget the worst special teams unit in NFL history in 2010.

Ah yes the annual Rivers thread. Careful what you wish for and when was the last time a storied franchise like the Dolphins had a QB? It can and does happen. Not saying we shouldn't start eyeing his replacement but if Phil wants to play in the new stadium he will. The only way he doesn't is if this line gets him injured.

The oline is not good and no running game and one healthy starter at WR and no TEs. He played like shit yesterday it happens.

Who were our QBs between say Fouts and Rivers? Stan was the man but other than that even Doug Flutie couldn't save Spanos Inc.

Mine... I think he will. Philip is loyal to the Chargers and wants to help them start in their new stadium. By the way, he spells his first name with one "L".
