Maybe....but Rivers in his heyday dramatically elevated a lot of mediocre teams: the first two years of Mike McCoy's tenure for example.

Von Miller is a first ballot HOFer who had the benefit of playing on Wade Phillip's defenses. He hasn't wrecked offenses like he did back then.

Recency bias. That’s cuz he hasn’t had Chubb on the other side.

He has much better interior linemen to collapse the pocket than Bosa and Ingram do. They have to work much harder to get to the QB than Miller does.

Exactly. Him being better than Ingram maybe. I do think Bosa is close if not similar.

There is zero proof that Rivers would light a magical fire anywhere. His last ten seasons:

There is zero proof he would not either. His coaches during that span were Lynn, McCoy and Norv. I'm not sure many QBs would have much luck playing under that trio for this team.

that von article was written last year. wonder what Von thinks of rivers now with all the 'tosses into coverage for pics" he's been throwin.

I think he would probably double down on his statement seeing how this team looks lol.

Some people seem to forget this is a team game. Did Rivers play offense, defense, and special teams? Is Rivers the entire 52 man roster? Is Rivers also the HC, DC, OC?

                        Michael Lombardi's take on Rivers:

Philip Rivers of the Chargers had a career year in 2018 for himself and the team. This year, operating on the last year of his contract, the 38-year-old quarterback looks nothing like 2018 Rivers. Some of that is his fault, most of it is the fault of the offensive line and its inability to protect him each week. Nonetheless, Rivers and the Chargers might be heading for a breakup.

During the 2018 draft, I was convinced the Chargers would select Lamar Jackson in the first round as the heir apparent to Rivers. When Derwin James slipped, they nabbed him instead. They no longer have the luxury of avoiding this hole —they must address this area of need. Their strategy might involve bringing Rivers back for one more year as it gives them a bit more time to find their next quarterback. But make no mistake about it: the Chargers will be looking hard this offseason.
