Matt Hasselbeck was just on Cowherd and after answering a bunch of questions he made an interesting comment in regards to Drake Maye looking lost.
He said “There’s something to be said about veteran QBs who have experience, and getting the ball out fast. Just a few weeks ago a retired Philip Rivers left the field with seconds to go in the game and INDY was winning. SEA needed a last second FG to get out of the game by the skin of their teeth. Maye never looked like he could get his offense in the right look like Rivers did effortlessly.”

Interesting comment ... in relation to Herbert and his playoff problems.
Would PR have gotten into the right set against New England in a Greg Roman offense?

We know Roman was confused all game ... maybe PR wouldn't be, and there were enough wrinkles in a Greg Roman offense to employ.

The Los Angeles Chargers could face the Seattle Seahawks in the 2026 regular season opener, providing them an opportunity to make a statement.

The NFL could opt for a Super Bowl rematch to kickoff the 2026 season, but considering it wasn’t a very competitive game, that could be a tough sell. Another name that jumps off the page is the Chiefs, who have been the most dominant team in the league over the past decade. However, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes may not be recovered in time from his torn ACL injury to play Week 1

That makes scheduling Kansas City as Seattle’s season opener opponent very risky
. The Cowboys are always an option, but they played in the 2025 opener and have not been a playoff team in two years. The Cardinals and Giants likely each have slim odds as they are in rebuilding mode with new coaching regimes.

That leaves us with either the Chargers or Bears, and either would be solid choices. They each went 11-6 and made the playoffs this past season, and have top tier quarterbacks in Justin Herbert and Caleb Williams. However, Los Angeles has a couple of unique things in its favor.
Excuse me? Scheduling KC as their opener is very risky of what - that KC may have to play their backup and lose? whoa, can't "risk" that! Anyone here remember a time that the NFL modified a schedule because a Charger was hurt?

A lot of criticism directed towards Roman was in his disinclination to run the football ... horrible mistake: particularly with New England missing their nose tackle that game.
Seattle's offense got on track running the football.

Some have claimed (Matt Money Smith) that the Charger Oline was expecting to run the football, except Roman had a change of heart sitting up there in the booth.
The Oline felt that the rug had been pulled out from under them. They didn't lose that game.

PR when that IOL caved in 0.5 seconds would likely be a blood bath imo. He wouldn't get 2 steps. PR would need to re-draw route patterns and teach all of the receivers in order to make Gro's offense work.

Well the league isn't going to put a KC team without Mahomes to start the season. Now that doesn't mean Herbert or Caleb couldn't get hurt in training camp, post when the schedule comes out and the Thursday opening is a dud - but I would be okay going up Seattle, week 1

Rivers also played the Seahawk defense in a regular season game, not in the Super bowl where their intensity was dialed up to the max.

Of course they won't - everyone knows and just assumes that. that is exactly my point.

I'm ok going there too. Zero tape on MM's new LAC system at that point.

In regard to the NE game, apparently the game plan was supposed to be run heavy but for some reason GRo changed his play calling. It started when the Chargers got the interception deep in NE territory. The players thought they were going to run the ball, but they went pass. The players were confused. Regardless, this was a big theme throughout the season, the Chargers offense had no identity. They thought they were going to be physical run team but that's not what they were.

Is there a single player on NE's offense who is better than their counterpart on Indy's offense other than Maye? I think the supporting cast may have something to do with it.

Rivers would have audibled out of 99% of Roman's calls and had greater success because of doing so
