I am still not sure on Woods. I think he’s going to be a bust for a 1st round pick. Doesn’t seem like he has the work ethic to succeed in the NFL.

This is why the Niners havent drafted well lately as a i mentioned not too long ago. Wasnt aware of this but makes sense. Shanahan has too much say on early draft picks. On a well-run normal NFL team, the draft decisions are the culmination of months and even years of careful analysis...the various scouts compile their big board recommendations, along with the chief of scouting, the GM, and the asst. GM...then, the HC, OC and DC review all these recommendations and the decisions are arrived at by a CONSENSUS...it normally would take a whole lot of table banging by any of the top 4--GM, HC, OC and DC to override a consensus big board ranking...now, if it's a small difference in slotting value, sometimes the table banging works...but if the slotting value difference is large, the table banging usually does no good...

This is why I used to laugh whenever on Day 1 of the draft, Al Davis used to phone in his first round pick--overriding months of careful scouting and analysis of film...and the Raider GM was forced to send Big Al's pet pick in to the NFL--even though the pick was rated well below the consensus Big Board ranking...
