Troy Hill, John Johnson, Floyd and Samsom E are all free agents

Doesn't mean they don't go back to the Rams but the Rams have some major work to do to get under the cap let alone sign some of these guys back. So Stafford and the offense will have to be better. I think the media is missing on this - well the National media
Yep. That is big friggin IF. IF the Rams can hold that defense together, and keep it playing at a high level like it did in 2021. Not only can they not afford to lose FAs, they've already lost the DC that turned the unit into the league's best last season.

Remainder of Goff's contract (and cap hit) is the Lions' responsibility now. Trying to find a trade partner in the first place is a win. They can now focus attention on finding mid round talents to coach up.

Dammit right when the Chargers were going to eclipse the Rams too.
They havent gone 7 straight with no first rounder, they will go 7 straight with no first rounder after trading away more first round picks. Their last first round pick was in 2016 when they drafted Goff.
Signing vets also doesnt always work. The Rams only have a 3rd round comp pick a 4th, 6th & 7th in this coming draft.

I don't think its going out on a limb that at least one, if not two of those players from the Rams will be on the Chargers defense

My picks are JJ3 and Troy Hill. (Also could see Austin Blythe added to the Chargers OL)

Reminds me of the good old Bobby Beathard drafts, especially his last few years with us...

That is one barren cupboard. Most everything has to come via FA and UDFA to keep the roster stocked. You will have to hit big on a majority of your decisions for years.

Something schmelly went down in Cabo this weekend...and it wasn't the fish tacos.

              Tampering is a crime.

LAR must be penalized high draft picks.

              Oh...nevermind.

But it would be less of a gamble on betting whether the players you draft are going to be any good.
Wonder no more. Just pay attention to the Rams cuz that’s their approach.

You right. Going into the future its 7 straight years where they feel their original 1st round slot was expendable value to be traded away. The Goff trade up look at all they gave up. They didn't merely draft him in 2016 in the 1st round.....they they away tons of picks.

*2017: Rams traded this first-round pick as part of the package to move up and draft Goff in 2016.
                  (first-round pick, two second-round picks, a third-round pick, a 2017 first-round pick and a 2017 third-round pick to the Titans)

2018: Rams traded this first-round pick to acquire receiver Brandin Cooks from New England.

2019: Rams traded this first-round pick to move down and acquire second- and third-round picks from Atlanta.

2020: Rams traded this first-round pick for Jalen Ramsey.

2021: Rams traded this first-round pick for Jalen Ramsey.

2022: Rams traded this first-round pick for Matthew Stafford.

2023: Rams traded this first-round pick for Matthew Stafford.

It's going to be interesting to watch how it works over the next few seasons. Aaron Donald is going to be 30 this year, when his skills start to decline that defense isn't going to the same. So the window for this current experiment in that strategy is going to be relatively quick.

I think good teams do this a lot. Just look at what SEA gave up for Jamal Adams (3rd and two 1st) I think teams would rather have a proven player than gamble or wait a few years to find out if their no. 1 pick is good. They have a good enough coaching staff to develop players picked from 2nd-7th rounds.

Now, maybe Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell REALLY like Jared Goff and think he can be their QB in the type of system (my guess, run heavy) that Detroit will run. But the RAms did get two third round picks for Holmes - comp picks for the next two years so the third they gave up is basically a wash.

It also makes you wonder if "WalMart" just bought a bunch of "Ford" stock. Maybe like 43m worth to make the deal workable.

I don't know but it seems convenient - - I mean if the Panthers really offered the 8th pick today and you didn't need to take Goff. Or why not make two separate trades

Panthers for STafford and the 8th pick
Goff and a future pick to the Lions

Holmes was apparently the Rams scout who was banging the table for Goff in 2016. It’s not a stretch to think he still believes in Goff and with Lynn you know they will want to run. Goff was very good when he had Todd Gurley in his prime.
