Jonas Mouton was the final straw. That pick was nothing short of dereliction on AJ's part, desperate to fill a need he had neglected in that off-season.

Yeah . . . . . . . senility had kicked in big time for AJ by then

It all started with the Craig Davis pick!

AJ seemed to be on a roll before that

Was that the same draft as Jacob Hester? lol that pick was brutal

Agree. It was 2007, and Buster Davis in round 1 was an epic bust...though I also give a Dishonorable mention to our round 3 pick that year: Anthony Waters, a damaged goods bust...after that, it was:
2008: Round 1, Antoine Cason...BUST (Dishonorable mention: Round 3 Jacob Hester--gave up THREE picks for an AVERAGE running back)
2009: Round 1, Larry English...BUST (Dishonorable mentions: Gartrell Johnson, Kevin Ellison, Demetrius Byrd)
2011: Round 2, Jonas Mouton...BUST (Dishonorable mentions: Shareece Wright, Jordan Todman
2012: Round 3: Brandon Taylor...BUST and INJURY BUST (total tackles in NFL: 6) (Dishonorable mentions: Johnny Troutman, (drafted damaged goods injury bust) David Molk (too undersized) and Edwin Baker).

Yep...AJ kind of lost it in the last half of his career as GM...

AJ seemed to have a fixation about drafting damaged goods, hoping they'd pan out...(Troutman, Waters, Byrd...)

Donnie wasn't great either. Most of his tackles were made after they already had made a nice gain.

Donnie was very unappreciated in these parts back then. I always disagreed with the predominant view, he was one of the better players on that defense yet took unfair blame for what often was cleaning up other players' misses 5 yards downfield and stopping huge plays. and a local legend, ex CV kid.

100% agree on your Whiffem call - that guy got a better contract just so AJ could try to paper over the sordid DE affair.
