Strikes me that the Chargers signed CB depth and core four special team player.

Bronco also released WR Michael Bandy.
Deane Leonard is a key ST guy that got hurt so this may be a replacement for him.

I don’t think they’re moving Davis after the JC trade.

If they are 2-6: Ekeler, Everett and Vato should be on the trade block.

Everyone should be on the trade block at that point.

I've posted this before but Derwin and similar to Roquan Smith and would flourish at iLB with outside flex.

              Bosa and Mack for sure.

Just with those 'three players mentioned above, they are free agents so do not have to worry about future commitments to injuries
But I don't disagree with you. If they are 3-5 should have a fire sale

and if that happens, on November 3rd, tell Tom to turn in his fob and badge and he is no longer needed.

Football teams rarely ever fire sale (if ever) like baseball teams do at a deadline. Contracts are structured differently, and football trades are usually based on getting picks in return so you need to make sure you have enough guys to finish a season. What makes it so easy to sell off in baseball is you can trade prospects (picks cannot be traded in baseball) and you have layers of talent in the minors to back fill your trades.

If Staley wants to play him like a LB, just call him that, take a lesser player off the field, and put in actual safeties. Not rocket science and he’s not fooling anyone.

If I remember well, Polomalu was a safety who played like an ILB.
Do you see James in that role ?

                      Ya I tend to agree.
we had 2 pretty good safties vs raiders, hopefully that inspires him.

With those big salaries and considering age, what makes you think someone would give you anything for those guys?

I have to say, I'm surprised that a guy who played football for as long as Butkus did, and as well as Butkus did, would last 80 years.

                          RIP, Dick Butkus

Dick Butkus, Hall of Fame linebacker and Bears legend, dies at age of 80 (nfl.com)
