Hell, it coulda been ANY assistant coach! "Who will be the next Chargers OC?" Some of you already have a temp replacement OC set in stone. If so...wow. I guess the hunt for a new OC is off now? Let the new replacement for Whiz guy have a chance? Huh?.
Most OC's have many years of experience and they come from a coaching tree.

Andy Reid comes from the Bill Walsh coaching tree and his offense is mainly a derivative of the WCO. Reid took the basic WCO and modified it to his liking, getting rid of certain plays and adding his own wrinkle. But Reids offense is still basically WCO using much of the same terminolgy, route tree's, blocking schemes, etc.

Same with Norv Turner. He comes from the Jimmy Johnson coaching tree and uses the cowboys deep vertical offense or what they were running at that time.

      Both have their own playbooks.

Kyle Shanahan has a brilliant offense as it has now worked with 2 different teams, the Falcons and 49ers. Matt Ryan has said Shanahan's playbook is like an encyclopedia.

What coaching tree is Steich from ? He doesn't have an extensive resume so I assume he's from the Whiz coaching tree ?

Charger fans have the right to know what offense will be run next season. It sounds like it will be a flavor of Whiz's offense.

As far as Steich installing his own offense, normally it doesn't work that way. It takes years of training and coming from a coaching tree.

It's been said that he comes from Norvell's coaching bush. He communicates with the great one regularly.

Imagine reviving the deep vertical offense with this Oline. The next qb will get killed. A player like Lamar Jackson wouldn't function well within it because the qb needs to be able to make all the throws: challenging the D to cover all parts of the field.

I’d be very interested in seeing a more vertical O, if that comes with a more mobile QB who can buy time and create. Would help the running game a lot. I guess having the right players for the scheme would help, we need OL bad.

Will our QB Coach hire be related to Rivers future status ?
We do not play modern football.

And doesn't everyone of them come from the Sid Gilman tree, Don Coryell being of course his greatest disciple?
(Still can't believe these morons voting for HOF haven't inducted Don......almost every offensive player inducted these days comes from a scheme originated by Gilman/Coryell. But I digress.....)
Who ever is the OC, the powers to be best make sure AL is on board. 3 years of having an HC and OC on opposite ends of the spectrum hasn't been great.

Let's see who they hire, and take it from there.

Of course us fans have the right to know the Charger offense next year. How the hell are we going to put together our draft clusters for each round?

To go vertical, we not only have to improve the OL, but we actually have to sign a fast WR. Ekeler, our #2 RB, is our fastest weapon. Big reason why our offense struggled this year...no T-will and Benji is done.
