And there were some who thought he needed to be traded.

Philip Rivers' streak of 5 consecutive games with a 120+ passer rating is the longest in NFL history. (1/2)

I'm loving Philips pocket presence & his new found ability to scramble through the cracks & pick up a few yards. This is something that he wasn't good at untill we got McCoy & Reich. This use to be 1 of Philips weaknesses, He would panic & get happy feet. We grew accustomed to it.

I like this new chapter in PR17's career. He's playing like a possesed good ole' boy.

            I know more than one.

At least one person thought that trading Rivers for Joey Harrington might be a good choice

Is Rivers playing better than Fouts did? I never got to see Fouts play.

It's always really hard to compare players from different eras because the game is so different. Fouts lit it up when DBs could mug the WRs, unlike now. It would be interesting to see what Coryell and that team could do with todays rules. But Rivers may be playing better than Fouts ever did.

Enjoy Rivers now. I suspect this might be the best season he will ever have. Like the year LT scored all those TDs. He's just special to watch right now.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Agreed. But another thing to note is that defenses are a lot more complex and sophisticated than they were back then, too.

Yes. Fouts was great for his time. Orchestrated an advanced offense and, along with his receivers, was a master of timing plays.
But dude threw a lot of interceptions, fumbled a lot, and couldn't move at all.
Rivers doesn't turn the ball over as often and can move a little when his O'line fails.

Even though you really can't compare across eras, I vote for Rivers, too. Fouts had a beast of an offensive line for a lot of his career.
