What you see on tape but that is subjective.
Measurables such as broad, vertical, and 10 yard split are comparable.

Here are those #’s for our current top 4 RBs……

      1. RB Austin Ekeler (5-8 5/8, 198) ran the 40 in 4.49 and 4.48 seconds, had a 40.5-inch vertical, a 10-8 broad jump, a 4.28-second short shuttle, and a 6.92-second three-cone. He's a projected post-draft free agent.

Vertical and broad are the two key explosion metrics, Joshua Kelly is just OK. Ekeler has plus explosion, big difference. My question would be did TT blow evaluation’s for both Kelly and Rountree and just lucky with Ek? That would be my guess, metrics for RB’s carry.

I believe it was AJ (or maybe Ortmeyer) who said something to the effect of "You're here and then you're there."

So you know it when you see it. Plodders need not apply.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

He will have improved training camp, coaching, playcalling and blocking.
He probably won't be a star, will be a decent #2 RB IMO.
Running behind the WORST Offensive Line in the NFL keep in mind. I don't think even LT could have done much behind that matador blocking.

I am just saying I think he's going to step into the "melvin gordon" role. Ekeler took a pounding last year. He is NOT I repeat NOT an every down back or featured back. His is a perfect situational RB.
I would like to see him last for us.

The only real average numbers were Vertical and Broad jumps. Those can be trained up. Quite easy actually.

Everything else is very similar to someone else you might recognize.

10Y - 40 split is a key explosion metric as well. When you take all 3 in combination, it gives an excellent window into that particular metric.

              Take JJacks.
His sub 1.6 10YS, 36”+ vert, and 10’+ broad equal top tier explosive components.
Add in his film of excellent vision and dynamic cutting ability and you have an explosive player.
Injuries have been his derailing factor.

Larry is the odd man out as all his explosion traits are sub par. His vision, effort, passpro skill and contact balance will have to be his ticket onto the roster.

Yeah, I didnt realize Kelly's explosion metrics were so bad.

like ninja said, 10 y split, vert, broad are the key measurables and are I think more predictive of success than 40 y dash. Less trainable too.

LT was 10lbs heavier and went 10” higher in vert that’s difference between elite and average.

:Yah I was like WTF! With that 40 inch vert. Best Charger of all time IMO.

Larry's capacity to be a good special teamer is likely to figure into the equation.

I like Justin Jackson. I happen to think he's going to be the "short leash" guy, however, since this is the final year of his rookie contract. If Jackson absolutely SHINES this year, the Bolts won't be able to afford his second contract. And if he gets injured, or fails to stand out in a positive way, they might as well cut their losses with him early. It's difficult to envision a scenario where he's with the Bolts in 2022.

Ek is and was a workout beast. THAT translated. Explosion can be trained, anyone can improve.
Few put Ekeler's level of consistency, effort, genes into it.

Of course they were lucky with EK. 32 draft Teams passed on him multiple times.

Luck plays a huge part of talent acquisition. Nobody wanted Ekeler even with his incredible pro day. Many dismissed Herbert's talents. TT got lucky with both. I say lucky with Herbert because although he was a solid pick at 6, his level of performance far exceeded anyone's expectations.
