2021 Draft Discussion - Bolts Pick 13th

We have all had fun at TT's expense, myself included, in regards to Notre Dame and the draft. I took a deep dive since I am riding out Covid shot #2 today.....so I had the time. Yup.......Notre Dame is his favorite university to draft from with 6 Charger picks since the 2013 draft. His number 2 school??? Ohio State with 3 players. He has double dipped from a number of schools like USC, Wisconsin, Miami and North Dakota State. The thing that jumped out at me is he has only drafted one player from perennial recruit champion and national champion Alabama. AND it was Fluker......

2016 - 0
2017 - Round 7 Issac Rochelle
2018 - 0
2019 - Round 1 Jerry Tillery & Round 4 Dru Tranquill
2020 - Round 6 Alohi Gilman

I think the anger over his drafting of ND players stems from the fact that the first 2 were BIG TIME duds. Seventh round picks and FA's don't really count in my book as they are crap shoots. Tillery is smelling of mega bust and it will take Staley to turn that around. 2020 was supposed to be Dru's year and boom......big injury. Gilman......jury is out but he was a 6th unlike Tillman.

There is upside there and while I haven’t seen it, I hear he’s a decent pass blocker
Originally though UDFA but a 7th to secure him would be nice

I have him in my mock with our second 6th but can easily see him going in round 4-5.
Big, quick, fast enough, excellent agility, good vision, tremendous receiver & pass protector, physical, breaks tackles, and not a ton of wear and tear.

I just don't see the unworldly explosion from Waddle that i see in Tyreek. And then Tyreek is a compact little bastard that has basically avoided injuries.

You don't invest pick #13 on a 5'10" - 180 pound frame....period!

Tyreek is 5'10" and 185 lbs.
Waddle is 5'10" and 183 lbs.

Go check out the YouTube highlights. Waddle is running away from quality SEC defensive backs. It's clip after clip of him just running away from people. He's thick, like Tyreek. He can make contested catches. He's great on the deep ball, but then he's also very dangerous on the screen passes.

Combine the Notre Dame fetish with trading up for Te'O, Attaouchu and Gordon (none of who received a second contract with the Chargers) and the cost to get those players - 4th round picks plus the Sammy Small School (Mager and Pipkins) plus the whiffs like Tuerk and Perry - there are patterns developing.

This highlight video is awesome. Damn, I knew he is good but you're right, he is just running away from dudes in this vid. It would be very hard to pass on him if the is there.
