#47) ALIM MCNEILL - DT/NT - NCST - JR - 6’2” / 320#
why? - elite physical traits, impact skillset, physical, motor, leverage, in-box dominance, converts quick S2P
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Following a phenomenal year -- and now career at NC State -- Alim McNeill was named a Pro Football Focus All-American for the 2020 season. McNeill was graded out as the highest-ranked interior defender with a 90.5 this fall, making him the clear choice for PFF's All-American at the position.
Here's the full write-up on McNeill from the Pro Football Focus release:INTERIOR DEFENSIVE LINE
First-Team: Alim McNeil, NC State
McNeil played 87% of his total snaps at heads-up nose tackle this year, making his production nothing short of incredible. Only one player since 2014 has produced a higher PFF grade at 0-technique than McNeil’s 90.5 this season (former Mississippi State Bulldog and current Tennessee Titan Jeffery Simmons in 2017).
McNeil won 10% of his pass-rush snaps at nose tackle, an impressive figure in its own right, but the reason for his success is all due to his run defense. He was a constant disruptor and fully deserved the 92.1 run-defense grade on the year.
McNeill finished the season with 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack and one forced fumble that he recovered. He also put in some DB-like stats with his one interception returned for a touchdown against Virginia -- which is now referred to as the "Thick Six."
Though his stats were actually down from the previous season as a sophomore (28 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks), McNeill was nearly perfect as a run defender. The 6-foot-2, 320-pounder did not miss a single tackle across the middle, finishing with 11 tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage and finished with an average of -1.3 yards per tackle.

No idea of Jamin Davis or Doaks but the CBs are solid now. And a OL overhaul to boot..
Not sure how Dalvin Tomlinson ended up in our base defense near the bottom.

This is fantastic, Ninja. You put a lot of time and thought into this and it shows. I'll start by asking how we acquired Dalvin Tomlinson. Didn't see him in the FA acquisitions, but he appeared in the defensive line-up. What am I missing?
I love what you've done with the OL. A fresh new start with excellent depth and with a clever mix of vets and promising rookies.
I know Walker Little's your boy, but until I see him moving on the field at his pro-day I'm going to reserve my skepticism. If he shows that he's taken this time to prepare seriously, if he looks like he's been training and pumping iron (kind of like how Elerson Smith shocked everyone at the Senior Bowl when he showed up jacked at 262 lbs), then I'll be driving the WL bandwagon waiving flags and sparklers. He seems like a smart kid (Stanford, duh), so I can't imagine that he hasn't put in the work for this draft. It's been a long time coming for the kid.
I don't love Jalen Philips in the first, even though I think he'd be a safe pick. I think Staley's going to use Bosa as an OLB a lot more than we think. There will be plenty of 4i looks for Bosa, but I think he'll produce so well on the outside that we're gonna wanna keep him there most of the time. Just my 2 cents.
I like Alim McNeil. Do you see him as a 4i or an heir apparent for Linval, or both? He's a monster with power and quickness. Just not sure 4i is the place for him. But then again I see Dalvin Tomlinson in that 4i spot...
Ifeatu Melifonwu is a guy that didn't impress me much on tape, but I knew there was hype surrounding him. I was anxious for him to wow me at the Senior Bowl but it didn't happen. What am I missing?
Love Kendrick Green. He's a mean-Green kinda dude. At least he plays with a violence and agility that I love in a guard. Perfect for a zone scheme. I could see him slipping into the starting OL sooner than we think.
Love Meinerz for the same reasons, though probably less of a chance of him becoming a starter than Green. What can I say? The Wook Daddy won me over at the Senior Bowl. Kid's got good vibes for miles. Oh, and he'll also be a helluva player in a year or two.
I don't know enough about Jamin Davis to comment intelligently. I'll have to do some homework.
Personally, I wouldn't draft a TE, even in the 6th. I like our guys. Could be a ST demon though. A lot of back up TEs are.
Love the Robinson pick in the 7th. Total project but the best kind of project you could wanna develop. Added value on ST.
Lastly, I think Patterson beats out the 'Money Badger'. I knew it was a bad omen when he trademarked that name. There's a lot of voodoo involved in the NFL kicking game and you just don't poke the demons with a stick like that. The dark spirits are cantankerous and fickle. They make you pay dearly for unnecessary hubris.Last edited by Bolt Dude; 02-18-2021, 05:44 PM.Our quarterback is a golden god.

Good catch on Tomlinson. He was in my old model. Still like him as a FA target.
I made a mistake with Bulaga. I decided to retool L. Joseph instead as it is more plausible.
Check them out.
Jamin is very raw but high end traits and had an explosive season in 2020.
Doaks is quick, excellent acceleration, tremendous contact balance, good hands, really impressive in passpro. Had some injuries and was in more of a platoon role.My 2021 Adopt-A-Bolt List

I’ve seen a couple clips of WL doing draft prep workouts. He looks really great physically. His hand timing, punch location/power, kickslide, power step, and showed more bow in his back during his anchor. I’ll see if I can find them.
Check this out just for previous padded excellence.
Jaelan Phillips is a top 10 prospect OMB. Concerned about his injury missed 17,18,19 seasons but 20 was what I thought he’d be coming out of HS.
Alim can play anywhere on the IDL. 2-gap monster but I think his best reps are exploding through a single gap and manhandling anyone in his way.
Ifeatu has climbed up my board 5he more film I got to see. I thought he dominated 80% of his reps at the SeniorBowl. He isn’t a year 1 starter but with some technical improvements in his speed turns, drive & burst, hand displacement timing, he can be a CB1/1B.
In Senior Bowl, Ifeatu Melifonwu records 2 pass breakups, 3 tackles.
DAY ONE
"If you gave up on Melifonwu after his first two coverage one-on-ones, then you missed out on a super solid day. Melifonwu got beat twice right out of the gate but finished the day amazing with some beautiful coverage snaps to finish it off, completely blanketing the opposing wide receivers. He then put on a clinic at the release drill. He was able to show off his outstanding press-man abilities. Melifonwu also weighed in amazingly today. All added together, Melifonwu had an outstanding day and should rise if it continues."
DAY THREE
"It was an incredible day for Melifonwu who showed superb physicality and length to win in tight spaces. He also dominated against tight ends in one-on-ones with aggressiveness and speed. He can match up against anyone and he showed it this week. Melifonwu will be an excellent pro and should be off the board sooner than later in the NFL Draft."
Kendrick is a draft crush. Dude is a straight up physical beast and baller. He could start day 1 at OG/OC.
Meinerz won me over at the SB as well. Wood is pushing his “Belly of the Beast” t-shirts.
Jamin Davis is a very raw beast.
All my Day 3 dudes and Ifeatu should immediately contribute on ST.

Kidding,
but anybody that misses seasons concerns me entering the NFL. I don't know what his injuries were though. Depends on medical i suppose. Just would be nice to have minimum injuries for a change.

Gotta say it...I disagree with the conventional wisdom about Dickerson.
So be it...I disagree about our CB population too.We do not play modern football.

However, that's the elbow, in the knee you still have your Meniscus, Patella, and MCL and PCL to get injured though the ACL is the most common. And then there is that Achilles and Ankles.
But you will never tear your ACL again lol.
OL though get stepped on, get rolled up on from behind. All kinds of stuff.

Medicals and interviews for both J. Phillips and W. Little are their major hurdles in this process. Talent isn’t an issue.

You would pick him on day 2?
Dickerson’s injury history is also a fairly large concern, however. In five college football seasons, Dickerson suffered four season-ending injuries. He tore his ACL in 2016, missed nine games in 2017, and was forced to redshirt by an ankle injury in 2018. Then, of course, he tore his ACL again at the tail end of the 2020 season. Dickerson is a potential starter with his solid mechanics, motor, and play power. However, durability is very important. And it’s a legitimate red flag for the Alabama center. My 2021 Adopt-A-Bolt List
