Yep. And the more that the stock of QBs like McCarthy, Nix and Penix goes up, the more the #5 overall pick can get in a trade.

I like the idea of this double trade down, then picking Fuaga. Of course, it would also depend on who else was on the board at the time of the trade-down destination pick.

A couple of guys here who've apparently looked at the chart say that the Bolts would most likely only get a 3rd round pick for dropping from #5 to #8.

Maybe that changes if the trade partner's target is a QB.

If using the Jimmy Johnson trade point chart the actual valuation of moving back from 5 to 8 is 300 points

Atlantas 3rd rounder is worth 220
Atlantas 4th rounder is worth 74
That totals only 296 - so under value.

For me -- to move on from a Top 5 pick - I would need at least 10% points above value - if not more. So at worst, a future 3rd rounder would need to be added for a team going up for QB. And I say 3rd rounder and not 4th rounder as a future pick has no guarantee - it could be near the top or the bottom of the round. Again, to move off the 5th pick, overpay

QBs do tend to skew the 'value chart', don't they? If a team like Minny or Denver *really* want's a QB, and they're concerned that Atlanta is going to snatch him up at #8, then who knows how much they'd be willing to sacrifice to move up. The only thing I'd be hesitant to do is trade with a division rival. Don't want to help out Den-KC-LV if we can avoid it.

              Always liked Reuter’s analysis.
              Don’t know his track record.

Todays CBS mock has Chargers trading with Vikings to 11 and taking Fuaga

That shows the commitment this team has towards building an OL. Not every one of our 30 or so coaches was sent to the combine.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
                  Let’s win one for Mack.

Hardwick was living in Indy before the combine - so if he hadn't moved yet, easy for him to attend the combine
Plus Popper wrote that a lot of the coaches were in Indy as they had team meetings

I think we could even go down to late 1st and get Mims or JPJ. And perhaps 2-2s and a (late) 1 next year where we have more money to spend. JPJ could start and Mims could compete with Pips for starting ORT.

In as far as trade value points go, double trading down does nothing. If you going to go from lets say #5 to #13 you net 550 points.
If you trade #5 for #8 you net 300 points. If you then trade #8 for #13 you net 250 points. Total 550, same thing.

BUT if you trade #5 for #13 because they want a QB, then you net more than trading down twice, because the 2nd trade will not be for a QB.
