Here's another - Maybe they could trade Herbert for some more draft picks and draft every RT in the draft.
I wonder what kind of compensation the league would give us if we set off a bomb in a car Slater and JH10 were riding in together?
The only player I would guarantee the Joe Hortiz is committed to is Justin Herbert. The rest are TBD, even Slater considering this is the last year of his deal and then he is a UFA as of right now. Until Slater contract situation changes then my speculation of anything possible will adjust. That was part of the idea.... Herbert is contracted until 2029. So I will speculate about him if and when he is in final year and can become UFA.

Slater I assume gets resigned long term.
Thinking back on all of the problems we've had filling out that LT position, I'd surely have a heart attack if they let him go.
I didn't say that teams won't move up to grab a non QB. I said they don't give up a kings ransom to do so, unless it's a QB.
Now lets look at the Orlando Pace situation, which lots of draft picks were involved. The Rams traded up from #6 and added
#67, #102 and #207. Four picks for Pace. The number #1 who were the Jets that year was worth 3000 points according to the draft value chart.
#67 =1600, + #67 = 235 + # 102 =92 + 207=8,6 Total 1935.6 points. The Jets got fleeced not the other way around. They left over 1000 points
on the table.
Anything else?
In 2014 the Bills traded the ninth overall pick and their 2015 first- and fourth-round picks to the Browns for the fourth overall pick so they could select Sammy Watkins.
Last year the Texans traded the 12th overall pick, 33rd overall pick, and this year's first- and third-round picks to the Arizona Cardinals for the third overall pick so they could select Will Anderson.
I would definitely take similar deals to those in a trade down.
They got lucky. Rather not need luck with a top 10 pick. I bet you would probably find more failures than success at moving players from one position to another. Again, I don't have a problem with it when it's a late round pick plus this year's draft is loaded with tackles.
There are other examples of offensive tackles changing sides. Tyron Smith was a right tackle at USC. He switched to left tackle for the Cowboys and may end up in the Hall of Fame. Jack Conklin was a left tackle at Michigan State. He switched to right tackle in the NFL and made All-Pro twice. Ryan Ramczyk was a left tackle at Wisconsin. He's made All-Pro three times as a right tackle in the NFL. Bryan Bulaga was a left tackle at Iowa. He started at right tackle for most of his career in the NFL. Riley Reiff also started at left tackle at Iowa and switched to right tackle in the NFL.
We picked D.J. Fluker 11th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played right tackle at Alabama. We put him at right tackle. That didn't work out too well.

So say we got Alt, switch Alt to RT or Slater to RT?
I keep thinking, would Pip be a starter on any other team? Would he have that contract?
Five years in with multiple off-seasons with extra coaching and he’s average? Isn’t that a guy any team would be looking to upgrade? At any position, that kinda play needs to be replaced. Will he be a starter for us this year? I hope not, but if it is it won’t be cuz Harbaugh is satisfied with him, just making do. And I hope the scheme hides his average play.
The younger guys, not to worried about them, I guess I just haven’t seen enough of them starting. Trust in MFIC for their play improving at whatever position they end up in. RT is on an island too much, gotta have better, especially late in games.

Last year when Trey was due to become a free agent it was rumored that the Chiefs wanted to swoop in and sign him, I was snooping on other teams forums and Chief fans were upset that he resigned with us, KC was looking to bring him in because of the lower cost compared to what they had to pay Taylor, right now Trey would have a Super Bowl ring and folks around here would be talking about how come he didn't look that good playing in a Charger's uniform etc...

Yeah, I guess if we had Mahomes, we wouldn’t have to worry about average OL play.
The thing is that Alt is not the unanimous #1 OT and it's a very strong OT class, neither NFL teams or the NFL experts out agree that he's the clear cut #1 guy, that lack of consensus and having watched him play give me pause, when you have a guy that is clearly dominant and has zero holes in his game all the experts line up behind him as the clear cut #1 and it's almost clear and obvious that he's the top guy, to me that is not Alt...
my only concern with Alt and it's not even much of an issue because it's fixable with time and hard work, I think that he needs to get a lot stronger, for such a massive guy he plays with too much finesse for my taste, looking at Alt I feel like he is still a year or two away from being the best version of himself, he still looks like he hasn't finished growing into his body, so while I think he's a fantastic prospect I don't think he's the plug and play player that everyone is saying he is, he lacks the kind of power in his game that I would like to see in a #1 OT top 5 pick type of guy...
And I disagree. IMO, he is plug-and-play. He may indeed get stronger and better. The thought of that alone should cause people to be excited. Notre Dame isn't a finesse offense... and Joe Alt is not a finesse OT. You and I must be watching different players.
In the end, a well-rounded OT (pass and run block) is what will make this offense better. It will have a better effect on the overall team than a WR or TE will. You have to recognize what Harbaugh/Roman/Minter want to do. Protect the QB. Run the ball. Play strong defense.
The very best way to do all of those things is to trade back to #10-13. But if... if you can't find a trade partner, and have to pick someone @#5. Then I'm 95% sure that player will be OT Joe Alt. He fits. He's ready. He'll make the biggest impact.
Notice that my first choice is to trade back. If we move back to #10-13... Joe Alt is gone @#7. Are you willing to trade back and miss out on Nabers, Odunze, and Bowers in order to make the whole team better...?
