That's not true, nor was it in 2022, when the Chiefs beat the Eagles in a close Super Bowl victory that included Nick Bolton returning a fumble for a touchdown--and a game in which the Chiefs rushed for 158 yards while Patrick Mahomes threw for 182.
Turnover TD, punt return to RZ and Mahomes magic. He rushed for a good chunk of those rushing yards including the key run to ice the game

If you read all my posts I already said the Chiefs won the SB because of the defense. But in critical times it was Mahomes and Kelce that came through.
Kelce made a critical catch for 22 yards that set up the tying FG at the end of regulation. Mahomes made 2 critical runs in overtime to set up the TD.

So if you look at the entire game, yes the D made it work. But when it came down to winning the game it was Mahomes that pulled it out.

Against the Eagles a lot of shit happened. It was not a great passing games for Mahomes. Yet in the second half again with the chips down
Mahomes came through to win the game.

No, I'm not, actually. I spoke about the entire 2023 postseason run.

So let's go over the 2022 postseason run. Mahomes threw for 195 yards in a 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round. Kansas City rushed for 144. In the AFC Championship Game they beat the Bengals after Joe Burrow was sacked by Chris Jones the last time the Bengals had the ball, and Kansas City was put in position for the winning field goal when Cincinnati was called for a personal foul. So, no, a tight end did not win that Super Bowl that season.

Yes, Kelce has had a lot to do with the Chiefs' success. Yes, he has the most postseason receptions in NFL history. Ten of them came in the AFC Championship Game loss to the Bengals in 2022. Another 10 of them came in the blowout loss to the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl. He had three receptions for 30 yards in the Chiefs' first AFC Championship win--over the Titans. He had six receptions for 43 yards in the Chiefs' first Super Bowl win over the 49ers.

A tight end does not single-handedly win a Super Bowl.

The AFCC is not the SB. Kelce did not win the SB against the Eagles, Mahomes did.
Kelce's 22 yard reception with time running out in regulation set up the tying FG. Mahomes running won the game in overtime.

So both Mahomes and Kelce's timely plays won SBs. In critical time you need playmakers that's the point. No matter what
happens when the chips are down and game is on the lime you need guys that can make critical plays.

They play a big factor in them winning Super Bowls. They were no more critical than the stop the Chiefs' defense made the last time San Francisco had the ball, in which 49ers guard Spencer Buford blew his assignment and allowed Chris Jones a free path at Brock Purdy.

Because Chris Jones is a playmaker. You need guys like that whether it be on D or O. But I don't quite remember that play. What I remember
is the Chiefs blitzed and Purdy had to get rid of the ball. Perhaps two different plays. 49ers had their opportunities and didn't come through when
                  it mattered. The Chiefs did.

You cannot discount what happens throughout the game. But with the game on the line Mahomes and Kelce came through. Without Mahomes
playing Houdini the Chiefs do not win that game.

Most of the 8 doesn’t mean much about last year, which is the current team. We need to aim forward, not backwards. thats all. We need a disruptive DT, better LB play, better CB play, and for god’s sake a better DC installing, teaching and calling better plays that players can execute.

DT - top priority, we really got nothing there but unproven JAGs.
LB & CB - draft? FA? coaching/scheme? All of the above?

look at the entirety of the 2023 season. They were ~2nd in Defense, ~15th in Offense. Over the years are years gone by. We once had Air Coryell, thats not going to mean much in 2024. Kelce obviously has more than helped. He’s been a key. He’s also had a LOT of playoff games which allows him to aggregate large stats. How many years left does he have? 1? 2? Probably not more than 2.

An elite TE weapon that also blocks is a special value to an offense. He has proven it. Bowers Fans rejoice in your observation. Alas - I think we just emptied the top shelf of our WR room and BPA is also lining up with top skill player need at WR unless we trade down and then its a matter of how the board is at the time of our later pick.

plus, word on the street is Hortiz said … lol
