Thanks for sharing that. I was shocked, because LB is usually so hard to project, see Queen and Murray. The position is so hard to learn because you have to be able to play the run and pass at a high level. They take a long time time to develope because of how mentally challenging it is. TE is similar on the offensive side. Meanwhile, edge rusher is a lot easier to scout and it's a premium position.
You do realizing one of those doing the projecting was Telesco, and Queen at least made the Pro Bowl once?
One part that makes it tough is that it is scheme specific, and your next scheme might be designed by a Brandon Staley.
Chargers have stability at the coaching position right now, and Harbaugh sure remembers his tandem in San Francisco and how it made life easy.

I was just using those two as examples, but go separate ILB and OLB and I'm sure you will see similar difficulty across the league. It wasn't just Telesco.
And, as I said in my post the position takes time to develope. It's not just the straight bust rate, but Queen took 3 years to develope, played well in his 4th season, got paid big and left in FA. You burn 3 cheap years to develope these guys into players only to either have to pay them a lot to stay, or let them walk.
I'd rather sign a guy for close to 1st round money who can play right away or draft a cheaper guy later and develope him like Henley. The opportunity cost of drafting someone who can give you 4 years of solid production while cheap is tough to pass up in the first round.
I think it is going to take more than just the Vikings 2 first rnd picks to move up. I think it will take a 2024 3rd rnd or a 2025 2nd rnd but who knows.
The Vikes don't have a 3rd rnd pick in 2024, their next pick after their two 1st rounders is #108 in the 4th. They also have #129 in the 4th.
I'd like to think the Chargers could get more than the Vikes' #11 and #23 picks to move to #5, but according to the Ye Olde Draft Trade Value Chart, it is the Chargers who would owe the Vikes another pick.
So if the Chargers acquired those two 1st rnd picks from the Vikes, they would owe the Vikes their #5 pick AND their #69 pick.
I don't agree with that. I would want more compensation from the Vikes, if anything. But if the Chargers got #11 and #23 in exchange for #5, it would be viewed as lop-sided in favor of the Chargers.
The blue collar draft: RT & inside linebacker..... ugh!
Where are the desserts?
I think Plumpkins ate all the desserts...
Besides, you have to eat your beef and potatoes before you have dessert.
Pappa Harbaugh taught his children well...

I knew they didn't have a 3rd rnd 2024 rnd pick and completely forgot with the trade down potentials...lol
I think the Vikings would have to owe more for the "QB" tax, no? Maybe a player could be involved instead of a draft pick? Not saying JJ but maybe another player.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Trade for 2-#1s and Ivan Pace, a UDFA LB last year who made the all rookie teams. He looks like a young quality player at a position of need that the Vikes have minimal investment in.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

The Vikings were very active in free agency re-building their defense, replacing 7 of their 11 defensive starters.
Their OL and skill positions (RB, WR, TE) are all filled. They don't need early round picks (other than QB).
Getting the #11 pick and the #23 pick (2010 points) for the #5 pick (1700 points) is the trade/swap that is the easiest to pull off... and is the price for moving up for a QB (310) without having to give a future 1st rounder in 2025.

when you trade up for QB's.... those numbers do not apply..... especially if multiple teams want to move up.......those kind of trades can be absolutely crazy!..... remember what Chargers paid to move up one spot to get Leaf???.... there are other examples too....

Queen was way better than Murray. I just don't think the Ravens wanted to pay him for some reason.
