I'm not a scout. I just love watching college football during the season, and I value that over the Combine and everything else that goes on from February through April. Although I have my rooting interests with teams, I become very intrigued by certain players as possible prospects for us. I also get turned off by prospects along the way. Sometimes I'm right. Many other times I'm wrong. I'm just a fan.
The way I view this draft is there's Marvin Harrison, Jr. way above everyone else. He's the only one I get the Hall of Fame feeling about. So, I don't want to say your question about if Joe Alt is elite is unreasonable, but my answer to that is, I couldn't tell you. From what I've seen, I like him...a lot. Not as much as I did Penei Sewell in the 2021 Draft, but Alt is among many I believe would be worthy of the fifth overall pick in this draft if Harrison isn't there. That's why, for me, trading out of the fifth overall spot is the move to make if Harrison isn't there. If we can't trade down, I don't believe anyone has a good argument for any prospect not named Marvin Harrison, Jr. being a must with the fifth overall pick. Not for Nabers. Not for Odunze. Not for Bowers. Not for Alt. Not for any of the three pass-rushers I really like.
The best thing about this draft for me is I finally have complete faith in the coaching staff and front office, so I will feel great about whatever they choose to do.
Yeah, I wonder that maybe you’re right. My big question 2 is whether a very good (not elite) OT is worth more than an elite WR or TE. Maybe they are - it’s that important a position. If they take Alt, I won’t mind at all, I am guessing he could switch to RT better than some LTs just by watching how many times he pulled all the way across the line to then turn up and attack the defense from the right side. Maybe Ben and Dev and Co would solidify his pass pro anchor, his one notable weakness on tape?
People get offended I ask. Seems a pretty normal question to me, just working thru the squirrels in my brain. idunno I guess I don’t know my place sometimes.
If the first four picks are Qb - its easy - take who think is the best football player on your board. And more than likely, you have given a higher grade to say MHJr than at least 2 if not 3 of the QBs. So you are getting a top 2 player at 5. Thats very good
I am okay with either scenario
1) trading back with MN for like 11/23 and another Day 3 pick preferably in 2024 but maybe a 3rd or better in 2025 suffices
2) getting MHJr
maybe somebody wants to trade up., maybe the Giants are willing to throw a 3rd to get MHJr if you have him and Nabers close
This scenario has the Raiders trading up for the Chargers #5 pick to draft Jayden Daniels, giving up their 2024 1st round pick, #13, their 3rd rnd #77 pick, and their 2025 1st round pick. It is proposed by Chiefs fan NFL pundit Nick Wright apparently. Not going to happen. The Chargers aren't going to do a deal with the Raiders. The compensation isn't enough, and the Chargers want picks they can use in this draft, not next year. If the Chargers were going to do a deal with the Raiders, I'd want their 2nd rnd #44 pick this year as well.
The injury history is such a huge question with him. If teams are willing to take a gamble on him, that could really cloud the QB's drafted early. I would hate to see him end up on the Broncos or Raiders if he can stay healthy.

just spitballing, idunno ... how sweet is the pot before you say yes? I would enjoy two #1s next year ... #13 is prob not going to get any of the oft-discussed "top elites", Maybe still on the board one from each cluster:
TE: Bowers (doubt)
OTs Fuaga, Fautanu, Latham. Fashanu ?
Verse, Turner
CBs Arnold, Mitchell
DTs Newton, Murphy
WR: Odunze, Thomas
Or ???

I watched a few UW games where he was phenomenal. Natty game was not one of them but the semi playoff, the marquee OU games vs Nix ... I've wondered why he is dismissed as much as he is. He's got physical abilities ... #1 being a rocket arm. Understand the complaints he can't throw touch, idunno. If his stock rises, it can only help LAC. Go Penix!

The kid can play. He has upside but you can see some of the eratic play. But that is most QBs. The few at the top of the NFL play consistently and seemingly are a step ahead as the play unfolds. as much as I hate him because he is the KC QB, Mahomes is often a step ahead of the whole play. It's why he is so good. There was a play where he ejected from the pocket and then could have scored the TD, but he knew the time and the scenario and he slide down and as he stood up he was like game over with his gesture. I want Herbert to get to the point he is a step ahead, but it doesn't help him get there when he keeps having new OC and play caller while Patrick gets the same play caller Andy Reid, and by the way one of the best set up the next play, play callers his entire career. I want to see Herbert with Roman as OC for the next 5 seasons. I strongly suspect he will begin to control the game the way Patrick does. Justin had a few moments last season as he started to get comfortable with more when he looked like the game slowed down and he was in control of it all. And when the scenario presented itself he hit the eject button and moved the chains....like you can't stop me. My eye test scream at me there it is. That what it looks like.
Back to Penix, when you look at all 32 starters, especially the bottom dozen starting QBs. If I'm one of those bottom 12 team, he is a better QB talent than I have right now, so why not take him in Rd1.
