If we trade down just THREE slots to #8 overall, we should pick up an extra mid-2nd rounder...some QB-hungry team may also overpay and throw in an extra 4th rounder as well...only negative is we may lose out on Bowzer or Alt...I also like those HIGH 2nd and 3rd rounders we have...

I support the trade down if someone is antsy for a QB even knowing we may miss out on Bowers or Alt. We need a lot of bodies with all the vets we are going to be cutting/trading this offseason.

I agree that protecting Herbert is priority #1. But 1a has to be getting him some more big-time threats.
The idea of Aiyuk - sure - steep price tag. For sure the Chargers would have to move on from both Mack and Allen

But if they want an Aiyuk - just draft Nabers or somebody in Round 2 - much cheaper

3 of the first 69 picks - a good GM should be able to get some players that can make an impact as a rookie!

That alone should be good -- but if you can turn that into 6 in the first 110 picks - now you are possibly really making your roster deeper

Right, but you can't draft Alt and Nabers. That was my point (replying to the other poster).

If you want to go OL in the 1st round, then you still need to give Herbert another WR target. So you'll either be paying a FA or rolling the dice on a guy in rounds 2-5 panning out. Which could happen (there were quite a few good WR/TE taken in that range last year), but it's a big risk.

Fair enough. Here is a question - if the Chargers figure out the cap and are keeping Allen, would you put that money towards Aiyuk instead if they are reasonably close and trade Allen? I know I would.

Note: I do not think the AAVs will be reasonably close. My guess, Aiyuk will be some 6-8m higher and the signing bonus will be much higher.

                  Probably.

KA's great — maybe the best route runner in the league. But there are a lot of miles on those tires. And I think the likelihood of Aiyuk being a top-tier WR1 for the next 3-5 years is much higher than Allen's.

Now I would love KA being a WR2 or a co-WR1 for us the next couple of years — but doubt we could afford that.

Some of the metrics on Aiyuk are eye popping. And with a QB like Herbert - would be a solid combo. Not going to happen -- but would be a solid combo.

                      you could get a 3rd & a 4th + a 2025/next year's 4th.

With the 8th pick too that would be awesome.

Still would prefer 2/4 of course -- but depending on teh first four picks - the above might be workable.
