Are you willing to pay qb money to an OT taken at pick 6 when his contract expires? That's where OLT contracts are headed. Or try to find a 2nd or 3rd rounder that's not as good, but still plays at a high level. Teams do need to keep the OL costs down to remain competitive.

Some teams around the league appear to believe the Redskins will end up cutting their longtime left tackle, but John Keim of ESPN.com notes the team will not do that. Washington remains intent on prying a second-round pick from a team in exchange for its disgruntled blocker. Trent Williams’ contract demands have likely interfered.

He may want a deal in the $20MM-per-year ballpark, Mehta adds. No offensive lineman currently earns that, though Laremy Tunsil‘s Texans extension may make him the first. Williams is set to earn $12.5MM in base salary under his current contract, which expires after the 2020 season.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    The Wasted Decade is done.

?? What's it worth to a team to have a top OLT on a rookie contract?

Bingo! You get to lock up an almost sure fire talent at $5 mil a year that might cost you $15 mil in free agency.
Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

I expect a qb but i can see OT then qb in the 2nd if they have a second tier cluster they like or are willing to move up from their 2nd to grab someone.

You have to be careful with that scenario. Anyone's 2nd round qb cluster tends to be a cluster full of career backups, and the one you really like might be gone.

But yeah, i like the identify and move back into the late first scenario.

Some QBs are mistakenly downgraded every now and then for not meeting a specific profile. 6-0 Brees is a good example. The draft isn't a popularity contest and shouldn't just be profile bracketing. LAC had to trust their own evaluation.
Personally, I like Simmons at #6, Hurts at #37.

I’d love to take Simmons at #6 then trade back at #37, acquire a couple extra picks, spend a round 3/day 3 QB boom/bust prospect to develop at QB3, let Tyrod/Stick have 2020 to see if they have any future as our QB1-QB3, and if a homerun is struck in 2020 then the 2021 draft is BPA or if not QB was just pushed off a year while having an elite D with home grown talent signed long term and maybe a ton of TPB membership’s wish of TT/AL fired.

If they did that I would be quite pleased. Only thing that would make me happier would be Hurts in the 3rd and big OT at 37. Not sure he lasts that long but in most of my mocks he is there in the 3rd. NOW THAT would be a happy day 2 haul.......

QB3 = guy you never ever ever want to play. We’ve already got a wasted latter round pick netting a QB3 that will never play in a game with Stick, there are dozens of guys who could replace him sitting on their couch.

how about drafting for QB1 or we just don’t waste a pick on QB at all?
