Went to the game yesterday. First time to sit in Park at the Park. Weren't sure my daughter could handle a seat for 3 hours. We had a great time. Drank some suds, got some rays, played in the grass. Just like I did during Spring Training between classes when I went to school in Glendale. Somewhere in there, there was a baseball game. Good time.

Yes. We should be buyers and make a move to lock up 3rd place. Then, at the end of the year, we could dog-pile each other, dump champagne on each other's head, and do a lot of interviews in which we thank God and our moms for helping us win the 3rd-place championship. The city then would throw a ticker-tape parade that the whole city would party at. And the we're-number-three foam hand would be the top selling item all over the county.

If we party hard enough, nobody will remember or care who actually wins the World Series - they'll only remember the year the Pads won third place. And the world will be jealous.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. Our bullpen needs improvement, and it seems like something we could afford to do. Improving the bullpen is probably cheaper than improving the bottom of the batting order or getting some good starting pitchers. Is it possible we could spend all our pitching money on decent relief pitchers and not have any starting pitchers?

The gist of my message was the thought we should set our goal as something doable and then party like porn stars when we accomplish it. We're likely never going to win a championship in any major sport, so we need to start coming up with other excuses to have major celebrations. Who wouldn't want to be in a city that parties no matter what the sports teams accomplish?

Imagine if the Cheatriots win another Super Bowl but all the headlines are about San Diego Chargers fans going crazy over seeing LaDainian in a Super Bowl ad. We could totally steal Brady's thunder.

We probably should have closed down San Diego County for a major party when the NFL forced the Spanoses to keep the Chargers in San Diego for another year.

We're back in last. But I still say we can finish third. At our best, I think we might be better than the Rockies. (I don't know much about the Rockies.) The D-backs, talent-wise, are better than us, but, just like we're the Padres, they are the D-backs and might continue to underachieve to the point that they fall behind us.
