A bone bruise is one level less serious than a fracture. This is not good news. He could be gone for a while.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa, who already has been ruled out of Sunday's season opener versus the Kansas City Chiefs, could miss two to four weeks while trying to recover from the bone bruise in his left foot that the team fears could be a fracture, according to league sources.

The Chargers still are trying to figure out the extent of the injury and how long Bosa will miss, but for now, former seventh-round pick Isaac Rochell -- who has gotten the reps throughout training camp -- will start for Bosa and help try to replace him.

If the bruise is a fracture, Bosa's absence could be longer than the team had thought, as it was expecting him to be ready for Sunday's home game. But now Bosa is in a walking boot, hobbling into the start of the season.
uh, hasn't he already missed ~ 4 weeks? A fracture should routinely be detected in a simple X-Ray, or at most an MRI. How in the world do their doctors and trainers not know about fracture vs.bruise just from the imaging several weeks ago?

According to other reports he is going to see the same foot specialist as last time. It was also reported that he re-hurt the foot last week. But as with every injury, the team never really gives us a straight answer.

      • That's a great take, 21&500. I hope it holds true. I'm just hoping that the DEs figure out a way to get to the QB until Bosa is ready. Virgil Green and Gates did pretty well.

Can somebody on twitter please ask
          @ProFootballDoc about Bosa's foot ?

David Chao MD, former Chargers Team Doctor, is an excellent resource for this type of information.

I don't get why is it taking so long to see the foot specialist? I mean, it was reported over the weekend that he was officially out (Lynn knew it before that) and that he was headed to the specialist on Wednesday (today). What the hell? Was the specialist on a golf vacation or something??

Why disclose anything unless you have to? I suspect the news is not good or else the Chargers would have said something by now.

No news at this point leads to believe he is going to miss significant time. 4-8 weeks sound about right with our injury luck history?

This is a serious injury. Bone bruises are slow to heal. This could be season ending.

Treatment for Bone Bruise (Bone Contusion)

A bone bruise is an injury to a bone that is less severe than a bone fracture. Bone bruises are fairly common. They can happen to people of all ages. Any type of bone in your body can get a bone bruise. Other injuries often happen along with a bone bruise, such as damage to nearby ligaments. Types of treatment

Treatment for a bone bruise may include:
                    • Resting the bone or joint
                    • Putting an ice pack on the area several times a day
                    • Raising the injury above the level of your heart to reduce swelling
                    • Taking medicine to reduce pain and swelling
                    • Wearing a brace or other device to limit movement, if needed
Possible complications of a bone bruise

Most bone bruises heal without any problems. If your bone bruise is very large, your body may have trouble getting blood flow back to the area. This can cause avascular necrosis of the bone. This leads to death of that part of the bone.
