I thought Lynn was in over his head in year 1, but figured every coach needs time to learn.

Remember, Lynn wanted to be a power running team, even though the roster was built to pass the ball. We started 0-4 until he let Whiz and Rivers open up the playbook, going 9-3 down the stretch. This carried on into 2018 when they went 12-4.

But then Lynn reverted back to his BS the following year and it was even further complicated by Gordon's holdout and then Lynn forcing him back in when Ekeler and Jackson were doing just fine. Then he blamed Whiz and fired him midseason, and then let the greatest QB in franchise history take the fall next.

Now look at him. The laughing stock of the NFL, and nobody left to blame but himself. Yet management still won't pull the plug on this failure.
I first knew he makes bad judgements when he changed Matt Slauson from a center to a guard. Slauson was doing well as a center, and he didn't hold up as well playing guard.

Adam Gase fired Greg Williams. The fact that Lynn keeps George Stewart on the team shows what a horrible person he is.

Truth is, who are they going to replace him with? Gus Bradley? He should be gone too. Shane Steichen? He was the QBs coach just last year, you want to throw him into running this red hot mess? Pep? George Stewart for laughs?

it does illustrate why the lack of fans in the stadium does not kill the owners financially. The shared pool of revenue covers the players salaries and overhead
When you factor in that baseline revenue is fixed and baseline salaries also basically by caps (which chargers spend up to every year), the way to make more money isn’t to shave $2M off a coach’s salary, its to field a winning team and pull down an extra $50M, $100M, etc. This is the entertainment industry, you just don’t make more money by having shitty entertainment.

Cmon Dean - get greedy. Field a winner!

No but it would be funny watching Anthony Lynn cheering the guy on that cost him his job! Divine irony!

Pep Hamilton for the moment, he has plenty of experience as HC, GM and OC.... for 4 games he can do no worse than AL... we've seen bottom already.

I don't think Pep could do any worse than Anthony Lynn as head coach. But the Chargers are going to keep Lynn. Dean SPanos kept Mike Riley when he went 1-15 and that win was a 53 yard field goal. I think the Spanii are trying to find reasons to keep Lynn. So if he goes 2-2 and finishes strong they will blame injuries, no training camp, etc for why he failed and not the fact he was a failure

So really, the Chargers almost need to go 0-6 in the AFC West again and finish at best 4-12 for Lynn to lose his job. As if he gets 5 wins, I would be money he is staying; 6 wins - for sure he will be the HC

That is exactly what I would do. I would move Gus to interim HC let him have till the end of the year to prove something. Otherwise let him go and hire McDaniel in the off season.

Pep was the only interim possibility.

lynn has a bunch of assistants and coordinator who are green or total failures at HC so he can’t be fired mid season

Does anyone think it's possible that they are looking to the future knowing the season is effectively over? Just trying to find a silver lining in this mess.
If it's silver, Spanos is probably trying to scrape it off so he can collect it.
