Exactly! The obvious play would be to take a shot in the end zone. They had to call a time out so Lynn could say to Herbert - don't take the sack, throw it away and we will take the FG.

Yes - and it didn't take a lot of strategy on that third down call with 22 seconds and without time outs:

pass play (preferably to 13 if he is man on man)
do not take a sack
if need be, throw it away - if you don't see it right away, throw it away to where nobody can catch it
attempt the FG
hope Badge makes it

The biggest problem with that whole thing is that once we had a first down with a stopped clock and in redzone with 20-30 seconds left, we were in guaranteed FG range..... the proper offensive calls should be 3 straight passes INTO THE ENDZONE..... not stupidly short of endzone where clock can run out......if the pass is open throw it into the endzone, if everything is covered too tightly, then fire a ball over everyone's head out of back of ensdzone so there are no penalties or sacks..... ONLY settle for FG if all 3 passes fail, and that is unlikely with a great QB.......

BUY stupid conservative Lynn decides to play for FG and not allow QB to throw into endzone.... instead calling another short screen, then a run and time runs out!???..... Lynn does this every time we are in redzone in a close game where he thinks we really need a FG to win or tie the other team..... he does not play to take a bigger lead (though a bigger lead forces other teams offense to open it up and throw the ball against our bad defense)...

This did not need to be discussed at the time.... any good coach would have that proper sequence drilled into his QB's head as well as the OC, etc..... same exact blunder Chargers have made game after game after game under Lynn and McCoy......

I just looked at the play by play and the Chargers had a first and 10 at the 17 with 34 seconds
1st down: short pass to Henry to the 12 - time out (30 seconds

2nd down: short pass to Ekeler to the 8, he couldn't get out of bounds, time out with 22

So to your point, the second and third down plays should have been passes to the end zone

Wow. That was one of the biggest screwups in Bolt’s history. Unbelievable end of half game mis-management. Another nail in Lynn’s coffin.

Biggest of all time? Unbelievable? Are you new. They did the same thing the week before and it seems at least 3 of the last 5 games. unbelievable? Completely believable, and no bigger than the last of the one before that. FIRE LYNN.
