So, he's implying that the players were soft before he arrived?

Sometimes, Staley needs to learn to shut up.

Having a schedule of patsies make teams look 'tough'.
Their schedule broke their way this year.

That was his selling point ..... and if he couldn't deliver on that, why stick with him?

Bosa/James/Nwosu/Mack, and although thin at spots, it had some decent supplements... it wasn't encouraging.

He's still not out of the woods, but at least he's taken a few steps forward: seemingly the first since the analytics hype of his first 5 games.

If you are disappointed about how Nwosu has played for the Chargers this year imagine how Staley feels. Since hes been a Seahawk since March.

He’s speaking to us with this quote. We know we’ve had the talent in years past, several times. But we haven’t had the X factor to get us over the hump. I like that he’s aware

He’s not implying - he flat out said it. But don’t twist it from they had to play tough to they are soft. He was right. He cannot lead proud grown men by lying to them, they are not stupid, they know truth vs lie. They know football, they play other teams. Even early in the year, the team did not play tough at times. they are playing much tougher now the last month and its a valuable to recognize how important it is to their success.

I doubt 3 people at TPB disagree that the team needed to play tougher.

Yeah, it was in the newspaper. "Bosa/James/Nwosu/Mack" that never happened.

Staley has said from the start that Chargers have to win the battle at the LOS team to do anything special. You win at the LOS by being more physical and tough for longer than your opponent. This statement is just him staying true to his philosophy. He said he will get rid of players that aren't tough enough. And bring in players that are. If you are soft you can't play for Staley.

This is nothing new from Brandon. Are you too soft to hear it.

Sometimes, you need to learn to cancel your post

Rubbish. Until Telesco did a 180 this past offseason the team had more holes talent wise than Swiss cheese and it’s been like that for the past decade under Telesco.

That’s why fans were calling for Telesco’s scalp for so long. He was incapable of stocking the team with enough talent to compete.

Going into this season, we finally felt like they had built OL, DL and other positions to make a legitimate playoff run.

But was the past years struggling teams because of “toughness”. No, too many players sucked and they needed wide spread upgrades.

gusD emphasized athleticism and simplicity of scheme.
StaleyD emphasizes playing a nuanced scheme with toughness.
Our personnel and depth are evolving accordingly.

In defense of Tom no team with a veteran QB has much depth. The Qb eating up the cap prevents it. There is no Mack and J C Jackson (I know it didn't work but have faith long term and still a better deal than Russell Wilson) if Herbert isn't on his rookie deal.

This is why I called Gus the Norval of Defense - he was a great DC when he had a half dozen pro bowl players on defense in Seattle. With less than a half dozen pro bowl starters, his defense is not so good.

McCoy covered his eyes when we attempted field goals. That says it all. He wasnt even a great OC.
Anthony Lynn was in way over his head, everyone knows it. He’s a RB coach, not even qualified to scheme an entire offense.

Staley is genius, the forum will take years to understand his current genius but he will have since leapfrogged several levels up and still be elusively misunderstood.

lol - i just like the cut of his jib. I think he’s the guy. Its just opinion, no one can ever say for sure what happens if one guy is substituted in this exact instance with all other variables held constant. I think no way Norval wins with the injury list they had this year. McCoy and Lynn are just jokes imo, not worth even debating.
                        OK.

                          Open your eyes.
Telesco is adding the players Brandon wants to add.
Just like he did for other coaches. Brandon focus is LOS and it shows with the player personnel moves.

                          Year 1
                          Rd1 OL. (Slater-LT) Free agents Linsley-OC and Feiler-OG
                          Year 2
                          Rd1 OL. (Zion-OG) Trade (Mack-Edge) Free agents. SJD-DL.

Major resources used to upgrade LOS.
This is not Telesco doing this by himself. It's Brandon who want to add football playing jessies and win at the LOS.
