I have to admit, Staley is one of if not the most polarizing head coaches in quite a while. If you go by the user comments in these videos, there are two extremes -- fans who love Staley and have a list of excuses at the ready and those that hate him without reason. I don't remember a time where the national media was so lockstep and in unison on firing a coach (or at least alluding to available and debatably better options) and a large swath of the fanbase ready to defend that coach.

Just not a friggin end around deep in your own territory or if the offense has gotten off to a slow start and finally moving the ball - don;'t do something stupidOriginally posted by CivilBolt View Post
I’m pretty sure we will see some exotic plays from both D and O this Saturday.
But sure, why not have some razzle dazzle

Morning show skewering Brandon Staley for the Denver game.
Someone mentioned the idiocy of going for two in the 4rth quarter to close the gap to three,
thereby setting up a potential overtime with a field goal.

I'm not so sure "financial reasons" will be the thing that keeps Spanos from hiring Payton. Between the jersey overhaul, the free agent spending spree last offseason and hiring a young, innovative coach like Staley in the first place, I think Spanos wants to make a splash in LA after the objective embarrassment that was playing in that soccer stadium. Payton is a big figure in NFL circles, he's widely respected by current and former players and widely acknowledged as one of the best coaches of the last 15 years. He brought a swagger and physicality to those Saints teams that I haven't seen us play with since 2006. If we lose this Jaguars game and Payton tells Spanos he wants to be here, I think it will be really hard for Spanos to turn him down.
I don't even think Staley is a bad coach, I think he's fine to pretty good. I think his defensive game planning for specific opponents is very good. I'm just not sure he's a "leader of a franchise" like Payton.

Besides the financial issue, I don’t think little Johnny wants a HC with “swagger”. That implies the HC is calling more shots and little Johnny has to relinquish control.Originally posted by SK21209 View PostI'm not so sure "financial reasons" will be the thing that keeps Spanos from hiring Payton. Look at little Johnny’s tenure. All the HC’s were cheap and the type that would stay in their vary narrow lane.

You can’t get blood from a turnip.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.
And my personal favorite….A leopard will never change its spots.
All of these define the Spanos

He likes all that smoke. It's time for your close up Mr. Staley. The NFL will be watching how you handle what Doug Pedersen did to you in week 3. Pivotal moment coming upOriginally posted by powderblueboy View PostMorning show skewering Brandon Staley for the Denver game.

I think this is it. Tommy T lets John Boy play GM when Johnny B should be head ticket taker or any job but personnel decisions.Originally posted by Riverwalk View Post

Payton would want some control over the GM and probably wouldn't let John Boy or Dead in the draft room
Staley has only been a head coach for two years. I do think he needs a new OC next year - but I think he has shown he can coach in the NFL

Certainly hoping he has a solid game plan for this. I genuinely love Staley and want him to stay, but the media pressure to fire him over EVERY MISTAKE that he makes is crazy. I know that Payton is a better option, but I think that Staley is a dude we will regret getting rid of. Staley has some of the best leadership qualities I've ever seen in the NFL, don't want to lose that. Also, Payton still has bounty gate ringing in my mind. This has been a clean team for a long time, and I'd prefer to keep it that way.Originally posted by jamrock View Post
